Braves Head to Western Illinois in Opener

The Bradley cross country teams begin the 2018 season on Friday, competing at the Western Illinois Early Bird Invite.

MEET INFO
The women's 4K race begins at 5 p.m. and is followed by the men's 6K race at 5:45 p.m. Bradley last competed at Western Illinois during the 2015 season with the women's team finishing first and the men placing second overall.

VALLEY FAVORITES
The Bradley programs are both slated to defend their conference titles as the Braves topped the preseason coaches poll. The three-time defending champion, the BU men's team was a unanimous selection to win a fourth-straight title. The women's team, meanwhile, received nine of 10 first-place votes as it goes for its fourth title in the last five years.

MIDWEST RANKINGS
In addition to the preseason MVC poll, Bradley also ranks among the best in the Midwest region. For the first time in school history, both Bradley programs rank in the top five of the NCAA Midwest Region poll. The BU men are predicted to finish fifth, topping their previous best preseason rankings of seventh in each of the last two seasons. The women are also fifth in the preseason poll, which is the second-highest preseason prediction in school history – Bradley was fourth in the 2015 preseason rankings.

UP NEXT
After a one-week break, the Braves are back in action with their first home meet of the season on Sept. 15. BU hosts the Bradley Intercollegiate on Sept. 14 at Detweiller Park, with the women's race slated for 5 p.m. and the men beginning at 5:45 p.m.
