Women’s Golf Third After Day One At Cardinal Classic

YORKTOWN, Ind. – Junior Megan Medinger is third individually at the Cardinal Classic and the Bradley women's golf team is third in the 16-team standings after Monday's opening two rounds of play at the par-72 Players Club.

The Braves carded rounds of 300 and 301 to close Monday's action third overall at 25-over par 576, thanks in part to career-best rounds from Medinger. The junior matched her previous career-best with a one-over 73 in the opening round only to come back in the afternoon to shoot a one-under 71 in the second round.

Medinger is third in the individual standings at par 144, five strokes behind Cailyn Henderson of Indianapolis, who is the leader after 36 holes at five-under 139. Defending tournament champion Indianapolis is out front in the team standings at two-under 574 and tournament-host Ball State is seven shots ahead of Bradley in second at 594. The Braves follow in third at 601 and will take a two-shot lead over Bowling Green and MVC rival Southern Illinois, who closed the day in a tie for fourth at 603, into Tuesday's final round.

Senior Frankie Saban matched her season-best round with a 72 in the morning. She is four shots back of Medinger in a tie for 10^th at four-over 148 after firing a second-round 76. Junior Taylor Ledwein is tied for 33^rd overall at 155, turning in rounds of 79 and 76 Monday. Also sitting in a tie for 33^rd (155) with Ledwein is senior Brooke Thompson, who posted a season-best four-over 76 in the first round and chased it with a 79 in the afternoon.

Rounding out the team scoring for Bradley was sophomore Maddie Hawkins, who is tied for 47^th in the 87-person field at 157. Hawkins was one shot better in the afternoon, following up a first-round 79 with a 78 to close the day.

The final round of the Cardinal Classic is scheduled to tee off Tuesday at 8 a.m. (CDT).
