Game Recap: Volleyball |
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Senior Erica Haslag collected a match-high 20 kills and freshman Hannah Thompson turned in her seventh double-double of the year (14 kills & 24 digs) to help Bradley Volleyball extend its win streak to six with a 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 26-24 victory at Missouri State Saturday.

The Braves (12-2 overall, 2-0 MVC) have won six consecutive matches for the first time since 2005, which was also the last time Bradley opened Missouri Valley Conference play with back-to-back road victories.  The four-set win against Missouri State (7-8 overall, 0-2 MVC) also marked BU's first road win at Missouri State since 1999 and snapped an 18-match win streak for the Bears in the series.

Haslag, who had 30 kills in last season's five-set marathon at Missouri State, finished with a match-high 20 kills as she passed Abigail Kohnen for fifth in career kills at Bradley.

In the opener, senior Alissa Schovanec broke a 20-20 tie with a kill and the Braves held a 22-20 lead after a Missouri State error.  Haslag followed a Bears point with one of her five first-set kills and she teamed with junior Maggie Revell for a block to give BU set point at 24-21.  Haslag eventually capped a 25-22 Bradley victory with another kill.

Missouri State led from wire-to-wire in the second set, evening the match with a 25-22 win behind six kills from Aubrey Cheffey.  The Bears hit .220 in the second for the most efficient offensive set for either team during the contest.

The Braves would grind out a 25-22 third-set victory to go back in front in the match.  Bradley pulled even in the third at 17-17 on a Missouri State error and junior Kathryn Graf gave the Braves an 18-17 edge with a kill.  Haslag followed with back-to-back kills of her own during a four-point BU spurt which put Bradley ahead 20-17.  An ace by freshman Rachel Pronger would later give the Braves set point at 24-21 and Thompson's fourth kill of the third closed out the 25-22 win for BU.

After 10 ties and three lead changes in the third set, the fourth set featured nine ties and two lead changes.  Bradley raced out to an early 7-3 lead to force an early Missouri State timeout.  The Braves led by as many as five points (10-5) only to have the Bears rally.

The Braves held match point at 24-23 on Haslag's 20th kill of the match, but a Bradley error tied things up at 24-24.  A Missouri State error gave the Braves match point again at 25-24 and the combo of Pranger and Graf combined for a block to seal the 26-24 Bradley win.

The Braves collected 11 blocks in the match and five Braves had 10 or more digs, paced by Thompson's 24 digs.  Junior Hannah Angeli turned in her fifth double-double of the season with 45 assists and 12 digs to go with her three blocks.

Bradley returns to Renaissance Coliseum next weekend, hosting Indiana State Friday in a 7 p.m. match as the Braves open a stretch in which they play six of the next nine contests
