ST. LOUIS – Bradley redshirt junior defender Walid Kherat (Peoria, IL/Richwoods H.S.) continues to receive recognition for his performance in a pair of wins for the Braves last week, today being honored as the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office Wednesday morning.

Kherat contributed on both ends of the field as Bradley (3-0-1) earned a 1-0 victory Friday at IUPUI and came back with a 2-1 home win Sunday against Princeton in the 10th Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game.  An anchor in Bradley's back line, Kherat helped the defensive effort that limited IUPUI (2) and Princeton (4) to a total of six shots on goal in the two games.  Offensively, he recorded his first career point by assisting Friday's game-winning goal against the Jaguars and followed with his first career goal to get the scoring started in Sunday's victory against the Tigers.

In addition to his league honor, on Monday Kherat was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.

Kherat joined the Braves as a walk-on following a tryout during the 2015 fall semester and had not appeared in a regular-season game before earning a starting assignment in the season-opener Aug. 24 against Gonzaga.  He has not come off the field in Bradley's first 380 minutes, helping the Braves to their first undefeated 4-game start since 2011, while extending their overall unbeaten streak to nine games (6-0-3), dating back to last season.

Bradley returns to action this weekend by hosting Eastern Illinois, Mercer, Missouri State and Wisconsin in the Bradley Invitational at Shea Stadium.  The multi-team event kicks off with a Friday doubleheader:  Mercer against Missouri State at 4 p.m., followed by Bradley versus Eastern Illinois at 7 o'clock.  Sunday's action begins with an 11 a.m. match between Mercer and Eastern Illinois and the weekend slate will conclude with Sunday's 6 p.m. clash between the Braves and defending Big Ten Conference champion Wisconsin.

Tickets for Bradley Soccer regular-season games are FREE for Bradley University students, faculty and staff, as well as active members of the military and their immediate family members.  General admission adult tickets are $6 and youth (14 and under) are $4.
