GADSDEN, Ala. – Senior Erica Haslag tallied a match-high 18 kills and fellow senior Alissa Schovanec hit .600 and matched a career-high with 12 kills to lead Bradley Volleyball in a five-set setback at Jacksonville State Friday.  The Gamecocks pulled out a 17-25, 25-21, 25-23, 20-25, 15-13 victory to snap a five-match win streak for the Braves. 
 
Haslag was one of three Bradley (6-2 overall) players to reach double figures in kills, finishing with a match-high 18 kills.  Schovanec had a season-best 12 kills to tie a career-high and had no hitting errors on 20 swings for a .600 hitting percentage.  Freshman Hannah Thompson added 11 kills in the setback, while junior Hannah Angeli notched her second double-double of the year with 46 assists, 10 digs and two aces.
 
Bradley never trailed in the opening set and cruised to a 25-17 first-set victory with the trio of Haslag, Schovanec and Thompson each recording three kills.  With the Braves leading 19-16, Bradley used a 6-1 run to close out the set.  Hanna Alexander followed a Jacksonville State error with an ace and a Thompson block gave the Braves a 22-16 advantage.  A Schovanec kill later gave Bradley set point at 24-17 and a Gamecock error put the finishing touches on a 25-17 BU win.
 
After Bradley hit .345 in the first set, Jacksonville State hit .355 in the second set and evened the match with a 25-21 victory.  The Gamecocks snapped a 19-19 tie with a Lena Kindermann kill and scored three straight points to take a 22-19 advantage.  Bradley would pull within two points at 23-21, but Jacksonville State held off the Braves to knot the match at one set each.
 
The third set had 11 ties and eight lead changes with the Gamecocks were able to hold off the Braves for a 25-23 win despite Bradley hitting .357 in the frame.  Haslag had six kills on just nine swings and no errors in the set.  Jacksonville State snapped a 20-20 tie with back-to-back aces by Addie Halverson and would eventually hold set point at 24-22 on a Kaylee Frear kill.  Junior Kathryn Graf had a block to pull Bradley within one at 24-23, but Frear had a kill to close out a 25-23 win as the Gamecocks went ahead in the match.
 
After posting six kills in the first three sets, Schovanec had four kills on just six attacks in the fourth to help Bradley force a deciding fifth set with a 25-20 victory.  Haslag broke a 16-16 tie with a kill and later caped a 4-1 BU spurt with another kill to put the Braves in front 20-17.  Schovanec had a kill to give Bradley a 23-19 edge and BU would eventually win the frame as the Braves went to a fifth set for the second time in 2018. 
 
Bradley had to battle from behind the fifth set after falling behind 6-2 early on.  With Jacksonville State leading 11-7, Schovanec matched her career-high with her 11th kill of the night and followed it up with a block.  A Kat Poore ace pulled the Braves within one point at 11-10.  Bradley would later pull even at 12-12 on a Gamecock error, but Jacksonville State held match point at 14-12 after a kill and Bradley error.  Schovanec kept Bradley in the match with a kill only to have Kindermann cap a 15-13 Jacksonville State win with a kill.
 
Bradley closes out play the Gamecock Classic Saturday with an 11 a.m. match against Mississippi Valley State.
