Peoria, Ill. – The Bradley men's basketball lost its Missouri Valley Conference opener on Wednesday night to Northern Iowa, 65-47. The loss drops the Braves to 8-6 on the year, while the Panthers improve to 6-8.

Sophomore Elijah Childs led the Braves with 12 points, while junior Nate Kennell chipped in 11 points. Senior Luuk van Bree provided a spark off the bench with six points and a game-high eight rebounds in 16 minutes of action.

The schools played a tight opening 15 minutes before a late Northern Iowa run in the first half gave the Panthers a double-digit cushion. With the score knotted at 20 with under five minutes remaining in the opening period, UNI used a 14-2 run to grab the lead for good and take a 34-24 lead into the locker room.

The Panthers carried that momentum into the second half and quickly opened up a 15-point advantage, 41-26. The Braves were never closer than 11 points the remainder of the game as Northern Iowa won the league opener for both teams.

The Braves made 37.5 percent of their baskets with a 5-of-17 mark from 3-point range. The Panthers, meanwhile, connected on 44.6 percent of their field goals with a 10-of-22 mark from beyond the arc.

Bradley looks to regroup on Saturday with a road game at Indiana State. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. CT.
