Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Valparaiso, Ind. – The Bradley basketball team cut a 17-point lead down to five but Valparaiso regrouped in time to earn a 61-50 Missouri Valley Conference victory on Tuesday night. The Braves are now 8-8 on the season, while the Crusaders improve to 10-6.

Three Braves scored in double figures, led by 14 from junior guard Darrell Brown. Seniors Luuk van Bree and Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye also chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively, with Lautier-Ogunleye also adding a game-best nine boards.

The teams both started strong in the opening half before a Valparaiso run gave the host a lead it would not relinquish. With the Crusaders up by just one point, 13-12, Valpo used an 18-2 stretch to take its largest lead of the game, 31-14, before Bradley closed it to 31-18 at the halftime break.

In the second stanza, the lead mainly hovered between 10 and 15 points before the Braves made a late push. With Valpo ahead by 13, 50-37 with 6:18 remaining, Bradley scored eight-straight to make the game a five-point contest. Van Bree scored the final five points of the run with his 3-pointer with 2:43 making it a 50-45 contest. Valparaiso, however, responded with a triple and a dunk on its next two possessions to push the lead back to double-digits and hold on for the 61-50 win.

The Braves made 30.9 percent of its field goals in the defeat. Valparaiso converted 49.0 percent of its attempts but were also forced into 18 turnovers on the offensive end.

Bradley is back in action when it returns home to face Missouri State on Saturday. Game time at Carver Arena is set for 7 p.m.
