Senior Darrell Brown and junior Elijah Childs highlighted the Valley preseason poll and honorees for the Bradley men's basketball team as each earned Preseason All-Missouri Valley Conference Team accolades, announced by the league on Thursday.

As a team, Bradley was selected to finish second in the annual preseason poll, as selected by the conference's head coaches, SIDs and media members. It marks the Braves' highest placement in the preseason rankings in 12 years since BU was also slated to finish second in 2007-08.

Brown was one of five student-athletes listed on the All-Valley First Team, becoming the first Brave to earn preseason first-team honors since Walt Lemon Jr. in 2013. A two-time all-conference honoree during his standout career, Brown has led Bradley in scoring in each of his three seasons on campus, capped by a career-best 14.8 points per game during the 2018-19 campaign.

The senior also led BU in assists (111), steals (33) and 3-point shooting (79 made on 44.4 percent shooting) as he led the Braves to their first Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title in 31 years in 2019. Brown enters his senior campaign ranked 20th in school history (and first among active players in the Valley) with 1,365 career points and ninth with 174 made 3-pointers.

A third-team All-Valley selection last season, Childs was named to the Preseason All-MVC Second Team as a junior. Childs was second on the team in scoring in 2018-19 with 12.4 points per game, while also leading the Braves in rebounding (7.8 per game) and blocks (50). The forward also saved his best for the postseason a year ago as he was named the MVC Tournament Most Outstanding Player before totaling 19 points, six boards and three blocks versus No. 5 Michigan State in the NCAA Tournament.

Bradley received 368 total points in the preseason poll with five first-place votes to finish second in the preseason predictions. Missouri State led the 10-team rankings with 410 points, while Northern Iowa (343), Loyola (340) and Drake (243) followed the Braves to round out the top five.

The Braves begin the 2019-20 season with a home exhibition game against Milikin on Tuesday, Oct. 29 before opening the regular season on the road at Saint Joseph's on Nov. 5.
