Hoffert and Altmayer Sweep Valley Cross Country Honors

In their final meet before defending the teams' Missouri Valley Conference Championships, senior Jake Hoffert and junior McKenzie Altmayer of the Bradley cross country teams swept the MVC Cross Country Athlete of the Week accolades, announced on Tuesday.

Hoffert earned the weekly honor for the third time this team, collecting the award after each meet he has competed in during the 2019 campaign. The 2017 Valley Champion, Hoffert has now received MVC Male Athlete of the Week honors four times during his standout career.

On Friday, Hoffert led the Braves during the regular-season's most competitive meet in the country. Taking on 17 nationally-ranked schools at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, Hoffert finished 59th of 230 runners with a career-best 8K time of 24:22.1. His time lowered his previous standard by more than 14 seconds and ranks as the eighth-best 8K time in school history.

Altmayer was named MVC Female Athlete of the Week after leading the Braves to their first team title at the Bradley Pink Classic as BU finished first of 23 schools on Friday, which included five other Valley schools. Altmayer placed second overall in the meet with a 6K time of 21:03.8. The junior just missed her PR time (and the sixth-best mark in school history) by 1.35 seconds as she clocked the third-best time by a BU runner at its home meet.

The weekly honor is the first for Altmayer during her career.

The Braves wrap up the regular season on Friday as select runners are set to compete at Western Illinois' Leatherneck Open. Bradley then aims for its fifth-straight men's title and third-straight women's crown at the MVC Championship on Saturday, Nov. 2.
