Game Recap: Volleyball |
Springfield, Mo. – The Bradley volleyball team suffered a five-set loss at Missouri State on Friday night, 3-2 (25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-10). The Braves are now 9-11 on the season and 5-4 in Missouri Valley Conference action, while the Bears improve to 6-18 overall and 3-7 versus league foes.

Junior Sara Maddox led the Braves with a season-best 15 kills with Rachel Pranger and Raeann Bergman also reaching double-digits with 11 and 10, respectively. Freshman Carlee Camlin paced the Bradley attack with 30 assists – just the second time during her rookie campaign that Camlin has reached the 30-assist mark – to go with 10 digs for her second double-double of the year.

Emma Raleigh and Hannah Thompson led the BU defense with 18 and 17 digs, respectively, while Karagan Coggin collected a career-best seven block assists.

The Bears raced out to an 11-4 lead in the first set and never gave the advantage back. Bradley would close to within a point on two occasions but a 4-1 MSU run helped the Bears earn the 25-21 first set win.

Missouri State again grabbed the early lead in the second set and held a 20-15 edge late. Bradley, however, outscored the Bears, 10-2, to square the game at one set apiece. Three blocks keyed the run as the Braves defense forced MSU into seven errors during the stretch.

The teams again traded sets in the third and fourth to force a deciding fifth set. A 6-1 run in the third turned an 11-10 deficit into a 16-12 lead for the Bears en route to a 25-18 victory. Trailing by three late in the fourth, Bradley overcame a 3-0 run by Missouri State and finished with the last two points of the set for the 25-23 victory.

In the deciding set, four-straight points after starting with a 4-3 lead gave Missouri State the cushion it needed in the race to 15. Bradley would only be as close as three points the remainder of the game as the Bears secured the 15-10 set win and the 3-2 overall victory.

The Braves look to bounce back and return to their winning ways on Saturday, playing at Southern Illinois. First serve is set for 5 p.m. and can be seen live on ESPN3.
