Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Bradley rebounded from a cold-shooting first half to make six second-half three-pointers and cut what was a 23-point Michigan advantage in half early in the fourth quarter, but the 24th-ranked Wolverines were able to pull away down the stretch as the Braves fell 77-57 Sunday afternoon at Crisler Center.

Sophomore Lasha Petree was the leading scorer in the contest with 17 points and also tallied four rebounds, two blocks and a steal to lead Bradley (1-1 overall).  Junior Gabi Haack scored all 13 of her points in the second half and dished out a team-best four assists, while Nyjah White joined the duo in double figures with 10 points.  Senior Chelsea Brackmann had eight points and nine rebounds as she moved into a tie with Carrie Coffman for fourth in career rebounding at Bradley at 740 rebounds.

"We got away from the defensive game plan," said Bradley head coach Andrea Gorski.  "We can learn a lot from this game.  Mental toughness is about sticking to what we are and what we do.  We got away from that.  That's what games like this teach you."

Bradley shot just 4-of-18 from the field in the first quarter and the Braves were 8-for-28 (29%) in the first half.

After shooting 1-for-12 form three-point range in the opening 20 minutes, the Braves caught fire from long range in the third.  Michigan (2-0 overall) had its largest lead of the game at 44-21 in the opening minutes of the period before Haack started the three-point barrage with the first of back-to-back trey's.  Lasha Petree added a pair of three's over the final eight minutes of the quarter and the Braves also got triples from sophomore Tatum Koenig and freshman Mahri Petree.  Bradley was 6-for-10 from beyond the arc in the third and trimmed the Michigan advantage to 54-40 at the end of the frame.

Haack opened the fourth quarter with a three-point play to cut the Wolverine advantage to 54-43 only to have Michigan answer with back-to-back three-pointers to quickly push the lead back to 17 at 60-43.  The Wolverines were able to answer Bradley hoops down the stretch to close out the 77-57 victory.

Michigan scored the first seven points of the contest, forcing Bradley to call a timeout less than two minutes into the game.  White got the Braves on the board with a hoop and made a pair of free throws to help BU pull within three at 11-8 nearing the six-minute mark of the first.  Bradley held Michigan without a field goal for a near six-minute stretch, but the Braves managed just two points during that closing stretch as the Wolverines led 17-10 after the opening period.

Lasha Petree scored Bradley's first two hoops of the second quarter as the Braves trailed 19-14 closing in on seven minutes left in the second.  Michigan's Amy Dilk had her own personal 7-0 run and the Wolverines later hit back-to-back three-pointers to stretch the advantage to 32-18 with four minutes to play in the half.  Like the first quarter, Bradley went cold late in the second.  Michigan took advantage by knocking down four three-pointers in the final five minute to take a 38-21 lead at the half.

Naz Hillmon led Michigan with 16 points and 12 rebounds, helping the Wolverines to a 47-41 rebounding advantage.

Bradley will play its home opener Saturday, hosting Eureka in a 1 p.m. contest at Renaissance Coliseum.
