Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Peoria, Ill. – Faced with a halftime deficit for the first time this season, the Bradley men's basketball team dominated after the intermission for a victory against UIC on Saturday night, using a strong defensive performance en route to a 65-56 win at Carver Arena. The Braves improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Flames drop to 1-3.

Forwards Elijah Childs and Ja'Shon Henry each led the Braves with 14 points in the winning effort, scoring 22 of their combined 28 points after the halftime break. Childs coupled his 14 points with 12 boards for his second-straight double-double, while Henry returned after missing the previous game with an injury to score his 14 points off the bench.

Senior Darrell Brown added 11 points to go with six second-half assists and four steals. Senior Koch Bar matched Childs with 12 boards to lead BU.

UIC headed into the intermission break with a 33-25 lead thanks to a late run. Trailing by five, 24-19, the Flames scored 14 of the final 15 points in the opening period for the eight-point edge at the half.

The Braves, however, would come out of the break on a mission. Bradley scored the first 11 points of the second period to earn a 36-33 lead. After the Flames finally scored their first points of the half more than seven minutes into the period, Bradley used a further 13-2 run to gain a double-digit lead, 49-38.

Overall, the BU defense held UIC to just five points in 13.5 minutes of play to open the second period, allowing just one field goal in 14 attempts and forcing an additional eight turnovers during the 24-5 run. The Flames would only pull as close as six the remainder of the game as the Bradley lead reached as many as 13 before the 65-56 final score.

The Braves shot 37.9 percent in the winning effort, while committing only eight turnovers to 20 forced miscues by the Flames. UIC shot 38.9 percent overall – making just 32.0 percent of its shots in the second half after a 44.8 percent clip in the opening 20 minutes.

Bradley looks to pick up where it left off on Tuesday, hosting Norfolk State as part of the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off. Tipoff at Carver Arena is set for 6 p.m.
