Game Recap: Volleyball |
VALPARAISO, Ind. – Sophomore Rachel Pranger collected her 13th double-double of the year with 12 kills and 11 digs, but Bradley Volleyball dropped its final road match of the 2019 regular season with a 15-25, 22-25, 19-25 loss at Valparaiso Saturday.

Bradley (13-14 overall, 9-7 MVC) slipped to fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference standings with the setback heading into the final week of the regular-season schedule.

Pranger was the only Brave to reach double figures in kills, finishing with 12 kills, 11 digs and three blocks as she posted her 13th double-double of the year.  Ten of her 13 double-doubles have come in Valley play.

Fellow sophomore Hannah Thompson turned in her 13th 20-dig performance, leading the Bradley defensive efforts with 20 digs as she moved into 17th in career digs in school history.  She also had eight kills in the loss.

Valparaiso (12-18 overall, 7-9 MVC), which moved into a tie with Evansville for fourth in the league standings with the victory, used an early 7-0 run to take control of the first set.  Peyton McCarthy had two kills and two blocks during the 7-0 spurt which snapped a 4-4 tie and gave the Crusaders an 11-4 advantage.  Bradley got no closer than four points down the stretch as Valpo took the opening set 25-15.

After just one kill in the first set, Pranger had five kills in the second.  The Braves led for most of the set, pushing the advantage to as many as five points (14-9).  The BU advantage was still five at 18-13 following an ace by junior Emma Raleigh before Valparaiso would use an 8-1 run to go in front.  Five Bradley errors helped fuel the Valparaiso run which gave the Crusaders a 21-19 edge.  Bradley cut the deficit to one several times down the stretch with the last coming at 23-22 on a Pranger kill.  Valpo's Ally Cummings answered with a kill, however, and McCarthy capped a 25-22 win for the Crusaders with her fourth kill of the frame.

The third set was close throughout, with Bradley jumping ahead early on at 10-7.  With the Braves leading 15-12, Valparaiso rattled off five consecutive points as part of an 8-1 run as the Crusaders took a 20-16 lead.  Valparaiso held Bradley to .062 hitting in the third and eventually completed the sweep with a 25-19 win.  Pranger had six of her 12 kills in the third, while Thompson tallied five kills, eight digs and a block in the third set.

Bradley returns home to close out the 2019 regular-season schedule, opening a two-match home stand Friday with a 6 p.m. contest against Evansville at Renaissance Coliseum.
