Game Recap: Volleyball |
PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomores Hannah Thompson and Rachel Pranger each turned in double-doubles to help power Bradley Volleyball to a 25-14, 25-21, 25-16 sweep of Evansville Friday night at Renaissance Coliseum.  The victory secured at least the #4 seed in next week's Missouri Valley Conference Tournament for the Braves.

Bradley (14-14 overall, 10-7 MVC) snapped a three-match losing skid with the victory and kept alive a chance at still earning the #3 seed in the tournament, needing a victory Saturday against Indiana State coupled with an Evansville victory at Illinois State tomorrow on the final day of the regular season.  The Braves own the tie-breaker against the Redbirds after sweeping the regular-season series.

Thompson posted her 22nd double-double of the year, which is tied for the second-best season total in school history, finishing with a match-high 15 kills and 11 digs.  Pranger collected a match-high 19 digs to go with 12 kills as she posted her 14th double-double of the year.  Freshman Carlee Camlin served up three of Bradley's seven aces on the night in addition to tallying 11 assists and eight digs.  Senior setter Hannah Angeli became the 18th player in program history to reach 100 career aces and is the first Brave to reach the 100-ace mark since 2005.

The Braves hit .252 as a team and held Evansville (16-12 overall, 7-10 MVC) to an .084 attack percentage.  Despite the loss, Evansville secured a spot in the six-team MVC Tournament field thanks to an Indiana State loss at Illinois State Friday.

Bradley never trailed in the opening set and took control with a 5-0 spurt midway through.  Pranger had three kills and junior Emma Raleigh had an ace during the run which gave the Braves a 12-6 edge.  The Bradley lead never dipped below five down the stretch as Pranger capped a 25-14 BU win with her fourth kill of the set.  She finished with four kills on six swings and seven digs in the opener.

Evansville jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the second to force an early Bradley timeout.  The Braves would rally, however, scoring the first five points out of the timeout to cut the Aces' lead to one.  Evansville would push the lead back to as many as four points (13-9) only to have Bradley rally again.  The Braves eventually pulled even at 18-18 on a Camlin ace and took their first lead of the set at 21-20 on a block by senior Maggie Revell and freshman Karagan Coggin

Evansville knotted the score at 21-21, before a 4-0 BU spurt closed out a 25-21 victory.  UE called timeout after back-to-back Pranger kills gave Bradley a 23-21 edge and the Braves held set point at 24-21 following Angeli's 100th career ace.  Revell and junior Sara Maddox teamed for a block as Bradley took the set 25-21.

Thompson carried the load offensively for Bradley in the third set with eight kills, while Pranger collected nine of her 19 digs to highlight at 25-16 win to complete the sweep.  A pair of Thompson kills along with kills by Revell, Maddox and freshman Raeann Bergman highlighted a 6-1 BU run to open the third.  Evansville managed to pull within two points, but a 4-0 Bradley spurt put things out of reach.  Pranger had two kills and a block during the run which gave the Braves a commanding 15-7 advantage.  Thompson would collect four kills and a block down the stretch to help Bradley to the 25-16 win.

Thompson's 22 double-doubles are one short of matching the Bradley season mark of 23 double-doubles set by Jenny Pavlas in 1997.

Rachel Tam paced Evansville with 10 kills.

Bradley closes out the regular season Saturday with a 6 p.m. match against Indiana State.  Revell and Angeli will be recognized immediately following the contest at Renaissance Coliseum.
