Game Recap: Volleyball |
PEORIA, Il. -- Senior Maggie Revell was one of four Bradley players in double figures, hitting .474 and collecting a career-best 10 kills in the final home match of her career to help the Braves to a 22-25, 25-16, 25-7, 25-17 victory over Indiana State Saturday at Renaissance Coliseum.

Bradley (15-14 overall, 11-7 MVC) got off to a slow start offensively, hitting .125 in the first-set loss, before hitting a combined .417 in the final three sets.  Revell tallied 10 kills, one ace and three blocks, while classmate Hannah Angeli had 26 assists and seven digs in her final outing at Renaissance Coliseum.

The Braves finished alone in fourth in the final regular-season Missouri Valley Conference standings and will face #5 seed Valparaiso Thursday in the opening round of the MVC Tournament which will be held Nov. 28-30 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Sophomore Rachel Pranger paced the Bradley offense with 16 kills to go with 17 digs and two aces as she turned in her 15th double-double of the year.  Sophomore Hannah Thompson tied the Bradley season record with her 23rd double-double of the year (12 kills & 11 digs), matching the mark set by Jenny Pavlas in 1997.  Junior Sara Maddox added 12 kills of her own, while freshman Raeann Bergman helped lead the Bradley defensive efforts with a season-best eight blocks in addition to notching six kills.

Junior Emma Raleigh, who tied for match-high honors with 19 digs, tallied an impressive 11 digs in the first set.  Pranger had six kills and five digs in the opener as Indiana State (7-21 overall, 5-13 MVC) managed to hold off a late Bradley rally.  The Sycamores jumped out to a 7-1 lead to start the frame and led 22-17 before the Braves made a push.  Revell had a kill to spark the run and Thompson followed a Pranger ace with a kill to cut the Indiana State lead to two (22-20).  Back-to-back Sycamore errors out of a timeout knotted the score at 22-22.  Indiana State's Nikkie White broke the tie with a kill and a BU error gave the Sycamores set point.  Rhiannon Morozoff capped a 25-22 Indiana State win with a kill.

Bradley had kills on five of its first six swings of the second set, jumping out to a 6-2 advantage.  Thompson had two kills during the opening spurt, but Raleigh would later break the contest open with four consecutive aces.  The Bradley lead was three at 10-7 when Raleigh highlighted an 8-0 Bradley run with her serving.  Bergman started the spurt with a kill and Revell followed with a block.  Raleigh had an ace to force an Indiana State timeout and added three more to force another Sycamore timeout.  Thompson and Revell each added kills as the Braves pushed the lead to 18-7.  Bradley hit .375 in the second set, evening the match with a 25-16 victory.

Revell, Thompson and Maddox each notched three kills during a 25-7 third-set win for the Braves.  Bradley hit a blistering .414 in the frame, taking control with an early 5-0 run to build a 10-3 lead.  Maddox, Thompson and Pranger each had kills during the spurt, which also included a block by Bergman and freshman Karagan Coggin.  A 9-0 run later in the set highlighted the most lopsided set victory of the season for the Braves.

Bradley built an eight-point lead midway through the fourth set, taking a 15-7 lead on a Revell kill.  Indiana State was able to chip away at the BU advantage, however, and pulled within two at 17-15 before a big surge by the Braves.  Pranger sandwiched kills around a Bergman kill to push the Bradley edge to 20-15.  Indiana State answered with back-to-back points to pull within three at 20-17, before the Braves rattled off five consecutive points.  Pranger got the run started with a kill and Thompson and Bergman teamed for a block to make it 22-17 Bradley.  Coggin added a kill and then combined with Bergman for a block to give the Braves set point (24-17).  An Indiana State error gave Bradley the set 25-17.  Bergman had five kills and a pair of blocks in the fourth, helping the Braves hit .457 (20 kills - 4 errors - 35 attack) in the stanza.

Bradley faces #5 seed Valparaiso Thursday at 5 p.m. in the opening round of the MVC Tournament in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
