ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Thompson (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) was named a First-Team Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete and senior setter Hannah Angeli (Maplewood, Minn./Hill-Murray School) received honorable mention Valley Scholar-Athlete honors for the second consecutive year according to an announcement by the league office Tuesday.

Thompson is the first sophomore in program history to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and the 2018 MVC Freshman of the Year was the 10th Brave to earn the award.  The only player to rank in the top 10 in the MVC in both kills (3.19) and digs (4.59) per set this fall, she has tied the Bradley season record with 23 double-doubles to match the mark originally set by Jenny Pavlas in 1997.

A health science major with a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average, Thompson was named MVC Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 4.  She is the only player in the nation this year with 350 kills and 520 or more digs in 2019, joining Illinois State's Chris Rehor (1985-88) as the only players in MVC history to have two seasons with 350 kills and at least 500 digs.

Thompson's 523 digs this year rank as the eighth-best season total in school history behind her 528 digs from her freshman season.  The sophomore is one of nine players in Bradley history to tally 700 career kills and at least 1,000 career digs, already ranking 27th in school history in kills (747) and 17th with 1,051 career digs.

Angeli was an honorable mention MVC Scholar-Athlete honoree last year.  A health science major with a 3.43 cumulative grade point average, she leads the Valley in aces per set (0.50) and served up 0.59 aces per set in Valley play.  The only player in school history to have 1,200 or more assists in two different seasons, Angeli currently ranks fifth in career assists at Bradley and is 21 short of moving into fourth all-time.

Despite missing eight matches this fall due to injury, Angeli owns a team-best 39 aces for the highest season total by a Brave since 2009 (43).  The 18th player in program history to reach 100 career aces, the three-year letterwinner was the first Bradley player to reach the 100-ace mark since 2005.

Angeli has five double-doubles this year and her career double-double total of 41 ranks sixth in Bradley history.  She currently leads the team in assists per set (5.81) and is 27th in school history with 847 career digs.

Thirty-three student-athletes were nominated for the Valley's scholar-athlete team.  Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale). Also, students must have participated in at least 75-percent of the regular-season matches. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore status in both athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were not eligible).

Bradley faces #5 seed Valparaiso in the opening round of the MVC Tournament, taking on the Crusaders Thursday in a 5 p.m. match in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
