Hannah Thompson Named MVC Player Of The Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Thompson (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week after helping Bradley Volleyball pull out a five-set win at I-74 rival Illinois State, according to an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.

Thompson, who was a five-time MVC Newcomer of the Week selection last year, earned MVC Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career and is the first Bradley underclassman to earn Valley Player of the Week recognition dating back Laura Benzing in 1999.

Thompson collected her 18th double-double of the year to help power Bradley to a five-set victory at I-74 rival Illinois State Friday, finishing with a match and season-high 19 kills in addition to tallying a team-best 23 digs in Bradley's first road win in the series since 2002. Thompson hit .300 in the match and had eight kills and 14 digs in the first two sets to help the Braves jump out to a 2-0 lead. She also had three kills, two digs and a block in the fifth set, sealing the victory with her season-best 19th kill of the evening.

The third player in school history to have 18 or more double-doubles in two different seasons, Thompson helped the Braves take over sole possession of third place in the MVC standings with the victory as Bradley swept the regular-season series from Illinois State for the first time since 2001.

Thompson is the only player in the nation with at least 275 kills and 400 or more digs this season. She leads the team in both kills per set (3.21) and digs per set (4.80), ranking seventh in the MVC in both categories.

Bradley Volleyball plays a 6 p.m. match at Evansville tonight to close out a four-match MVC road swing.
