Game Recap: Volleyball |
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Bradley Volleyball capped off a 3-1 Missouri Valley Conference road swing with a 23-25, 25-19, 25-13, 22-25, 15-12 win at Evansville Monday night as the Braves earned their third consecutive road victory.

Sophomore Rachel Pranger had four of her team-high 18 kills in the fifth set and also added 21 digs on the night for her 10th double-double of the year as she paced four Bradley players in double figures in kills.  Senior Hannah Angeli, who has served up 13 aces in her 12 sets since returning from an injury which sidelined her for eight matches, had a double-double of her own with 28 assists and 12 digs to go with a career-best six aces.  The six aces were the most by a Bradley individual since Sept. 5, 2015.

Bradley (12-11 overall, 8-4 MVC) also received 12 kills each from sophomore Hannah Thompson and junior Sara Maddox.  Thompson came up with a team-best 22 digs as she notched her 19th double-double of the year.  Finishing with 24 assists and 10 digs, freshman Carlee Camlin had her fourth double-double of the season, while sophomore Lida Kastanou added 11 kills to help highlight the night for the Braves.

The win kept Bradley alone in third in the MVC standings, two games behind second-place Loyola.  The Braves went 3-1 on a four-match MVC road swing for the first time program history.  Of the four previous four-match MVC road swings in Bradley history, the 1995 squad was the only team to win at least two games during the stretch of four consecutive conference road matches.

Freshman Raeann Bergman had the hot hand for Bradley in the first set, collecting five kills on just five swings.  Evansville (14-10 overall, 5-8 MVC) hit .400 in the set, however, but still needed a late surge to take the opener.  The Purple Aces led by as many as six points (21-15) in the first set, only to have the Braves claw back into it.  Katanou had a pair of kills during a 4-0 Bradley run, which was part of an 8-1 BU spurt.  Pranger had two kills of her own during the run with BU eventually taking a 23-22 lead on a Maddox kill.  Evansville came up with back-to-back kills out of a timeout and a Bradley error gave the Aces the opener 25-23.

After being held without a kill in the first set, Thompson paced Bradley offensively with four kill in the second.  Angeli had three of her six aces on the night to highlight a 7-0 run which gave the Braves a 10-5 edge.  Evansville got within three points only to have Thompson follow a Maddox kill with back-to-back kills of her own.  Pranger took over in the late stages of the fourth, collecting a block and four kills during a six-point stretch to give Bradley set point at 24-18.  Kastanou closed out a 25-19 BU win with a kill as the Braves evened up the match.

Thompson carried the load offensively for Bradley in the third, notching six kills on 11 swings with no errors.  The Braves hit .367 in the frame and cruised to a 25-13 victory.  Thompson had a kill and Angeli served up an ace during a 6-0 Bradley run which gave the Braves a 12-4 advantage.  Bradley had its largest lead of the contest at 23-11 after back-to-back Thompson kills and she later sealed the set with her sixth kill of the stanza.

Evansville raced out to a 10-4 lead in the fourth set and managed to hold off a late Bradley surge to force a deciding fifth set with a 25-22 win.  The Purple Aces lead was still six at 19-13 when the Braves would rally.  A block and kill by Kastanou helped spark a 4-0 BU run and Pranger followed an Evansville point with a kill.  A block by Kastanou and Bergman pulled the Braves within one at 20-19.  Bradley eventually knotted the score at 21-21 on a Thompson kill, but UE scored the next three points to hold set point and would later take the set 25-22.

Angeli tallied two aces during a 4-0 Bradley spurt to open the fifth set and the Braves would take a commanding 11-2 lead, following up a pair of Evansville points with a 6-0 run.  Kastanou helped spark the decisive run with a pair of kills sandwiched around a block.  Pranger added back-to-back kills of her own and an Evansville error gave BU an 11-2 advantage.  Evansville managed to pull within three points at 13-10, but Pranger's 18th kill of the night gave Bradley match point at 14-10.  Thompson, who was named MVC Player of the Week earlier Monday, chased a pair of Evansville points with a kill of her own to close out the 15-12 BU win as the Braves won consecutive five-set road matches for the first time since last November.

Melanie Feliciano was one of three Evansville players to collect at least 16 kills, finishing with a match-high 20 kills.  Gabriela Macedo had a match-high 36 digs to lead the defensive efforts for the Purple Aces.

Bradley plays four of the final six regular-season matches at home, opening the stretch Friday with a 6 p.m. contest against Drake at Renaissance Coliseum.
