Game Recap: Volleyball |
PEORIA, Ill. – The Bradley volleyball team won its fourth-straight Missouri Valley Conference matchup with a sweep of Drake on Friday night at Renaissance Coliseum, 25-18, 27-25, 25-23. With the win, the Braves improve to 13-11 in 2019 and remain in third place in the conference standings at 9-4. The Bulldogs drop to 9-18 overall and 3-11 in league play.

Sophomore Hannah Thompson led BU with 12 kills on the night, while junior Sara Maddox and sophomore Lida Kastanou added eight and seven kills, respectively. Maddox also added seven blocks, while Kastanou posted her seven kills on just 19 swings for a team-leading .316 attack percentage.

Freshman Carlee Camlin paced the BU attack with 21 assists, while senior Hannah Angeli added 14 to go with three aces. Sophomore Rachel Pranger led Bradley with 18 digs on the defensive side.

It was all Bradley in set one as the Braves scored the first five points of the match and eight of the first nine to seize early control. Drake would only pull as close as three the rest of the stanza as a further 6-1 Bradley run midway through the set put the Braves firmly in control for the 25-18 early advantage.

The second set was a different story as Drake started with a 4-1 run and led by as many as eight, 16-8. However, BU fought back and after trailing, 19-12, the Braves finished the set on a 15-6 run for the 27-25 victory. Bradley fought off two set points at 24-22 and then scored the final three points of the set – two kills from Thompson and Kastanou before a block from Thompson and Karagan Coggin sealed the 27-25 win.

Bradley then carried its momentum into the third and took control midway through. Trailing by one, 10-9, Bradley used a 6-1 run to take the lead. Drake would eventually pull even at 21 only for Bradley to score the next three points to set up match points. On the Braves' third chance, Thompson found an opening on Drake's side and secured the three-set victory.

The Braves hit .207 in the winning effort, while holding Drake to just .168. Bradley also outserved the Bulldogs with nine aces to just one from the visitors, while also holding a 9-1 advantage in blocks.

Bradley looks to continue its winning ways when it welcomes Valley-leading Northern Iowa to town on Saturday night. The schools are set to battle at Renaissance Coliseum with first serve at 5 p.m.
