Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Peoria, Ill. – The Bradley men's basketball team scored the first 16 points of the game and never looked back on Saturday night, leading wire-to-wire in a 90-56 victory against IUPUI at Carver Arena. The Braves improve to 1-1 with the win, while the Jaguars drop to 0-2.

Senior Darrell Brown and junior Elijah Childs both registered their first double-doubles of the season in the winning effort. Brown matched his career high with 10 assists to go with 14 points, while Childs led BU with 23 points and a personal-best 15 rebounds.

All five starters scored in double figures for Bradley as junior Danya Kingsby also chipped in 13 points, while seniors Koch Bar and Nate Kennell each contributed a dozen.

Bradley controlled the game right from the start thanks to a strong performance on both sides of the court. The Braves made seven of their first 11 shots and held the Jaguars to without a field goal for the opening seven minutes, forcing seven turnovers and five missed shots during the stretch for a 16-0 lead. The BU advantage would only be single-digits for 24 seconds the remainder of the game as Bradley headed into the locker room with a 47-23 advantage.

The Braves shot 56.3 percent in the opening 20 minutes of action in building their 24-point lead, while holding the Jaguars to 34.6 percent shooting and 10 turnovers. Childs nearly completed his double-double in the first half with 14 points and eight boards, while Brown posted eight first-half assists.

It was more of the same for the Braves and Jaguars in the second half as the Bradley lead reached as many as 38 before finishing off the 90-56 victory.

Overall, Bradley shot 47.8 percent in the winning effort, recording 19 assists to just seven turnovers. The Braves also held the Jaguars to 35.2 percent shooting to go with 15 miscues.

The Braves look to continue their winning ways next Saturday as BU continues its early-season four-game homestand. UIC is next for Bradley as the teams battle at Carver Arena with a 7 p.m. tipoff.

Game Notes: Brown also registered 10 assists with his first collegiate double-double against Chicago State on Dec. 16, 2017 … Childs' 15 boards are a new career high, surpassing his previous best of 13, while his 23 points are just one shy of his personal best … Childs is the first Brave with 15 rebounds in a game since Josh Cunningham collected 21 boards at Missouri State on Feb. 25, 2015 … Bradley has scored 80-plus points in its first two games of the season for the first time since 2002 … Five Braves scored in double figures for the second-straight game … Bradley won the battle in the paint by a 42-20 margin.
