PEORIA, IL – Junior forward Gerit Wintermeyer scored twice, helping Bradley (7-6-4, 5-3-2 MVC) rally for a 2-1 Missouri Valley Conference win versus Evansville (2-14-1, 0-10-0) in the regular-season finale for both teams Saturday afternoon at Shea Stadium.

With the win, Bradley at least temporarily moved into second place in the league standings, pending tonight's match between Loyola Chicago and host Valparaiso.  With 17 standings points, the Braves are two points ahead of Loyola Chicago (4-2-3, 15 points) and need the Crusaders to come away with a win or a tie to hold onto the No. 2 seed for next week's MVC Men's Soccer Championship.  The No. 3 seed will play a first-round game versus Evansville Wednesday afternoon at Loyola Soccer Park, while the No. 2 seed will receive a first-round bye and play the winner of the 3/6 matchup in Friday's semifinal round.

Evansville provided the early pressure Saturday and capitalized on a run of corner kick opportunities by burying the fifth restart in the 18th minute.  Six-foot-six defender Ethan Garvey nodded home a Jesse Stafford-Lacey service at 17:19 to give the Purple Aces the 1-0 lead.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Evansville keeper Frederik Reimer took down Bradley's David Kovacevic on a break away at the top of the box.  Wintermeyer converted the resulting penalty kick for a 1-1 tie at 18:26.

Despite playing with the man advantage, Bradley was unable to sustain consistent offensive pressure in the first half and went to the locker room with Evansville owning a 5-2 halftime advantage in shots.

The second half was a different story, however, as the Braves maintained consistent pressure and dominated possession against the short-handed visitors.  Bradley could not convert any of its chances until the 82nd minute, though.  Defender Rasmus Smidtslund put the Braves on the attack, feeding Jack Lang on the right flank.  Lang played the ball across the goal mouth and Wintermeyer simply needed to tap home the loose ball at the left post for the game-winner at 81:55.

Wintermeyer's two-goal effort was the first by a Bradley player since he also scored twice against the Purple Aces in the 2018 regular-season finale.  Bradley's leading scorer on the season with seven goals and 15 points, Wintermeyer (21 goals) became the ninth player in program history to score 20 career goals and moved to 11th in Bradley history with 49 career points.  He also moved into a tie for sixth in program history with his eighth career game-winning goal.
