Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Memphis, Tenn.  – Junior Elijah Childs posted game highs with 21 points and 14 rebounds only for nationally-ranked Memphis to prevail over the Bradley men's basketball team on Tuesday night, 71-56. The Braves are now 5-3 on the year, while the 15th-ranked Tigers improve to 7-1.

Childs eclipsed 20 points for the second time this season to go along with his third double-double of the campaign. Among his 14 rebounds, which is just one shy of his career-best, were nine offensive boards – the most by a Brave in three seasons and just two shy of the school record.

Junior Danya Kingsby also scored in double figures with 12 points, while sophomore Ja'Shon Henry chipped in seven points and a personal-best nine boards.

Memphis raced out to the early lead by taking advantage of second opportunities. The Tigers led the Braves by 10 points, 14-4, thanks to an 8-0 edge in second-chance points. Bradley, however, answered back with a 10-2 spurt to pull within two, 16-14. Childs and sophomore Ari Boya combined for 14 of the team's 16 early points to keep the Braves in the contest.

Memphis, though, would reclaim its double-digit lead and headed into the locker room with a 29-19 edge at the halftime break.

The Tigers carried their momentum into the second 20 minutes of play with the first seven points of the stanza for a 36-19 lead. The Braves continued to battle and would get within single-digits, 40-31, with just under 13 minutes remaining. However, that would be the closest Bradley would get as Memphis finished off the 15-point victory, 71-56.

Despite the loss, the Braves had a number of positives to take from the game. Bradley held a 55-47 edge on the glass, including 23 offensive rebounds, while only committing seven turnovers. However, it was unable to help Bradley overcome a 22-of-82 performance from the field.

Bradley looks to return to its winning ways on Saturday, hosting North Carolina A&T. First tip at Carver Arena is set for 1 p.m.

Game Notes: Childs' nine offensive boards are the most by a Brave since Donte Thomas collected nine against Drake on Feb. 25, 2017 … Overall, it marks the 14th time in school history that a Brave has had at least nine offensive rebounds in a game … Bradley, who entered the game ranked 31st nationally with 13.3 offensive rebounds per game, totaled 23 for the second time this season (also at Saint Joseph's on Nov. 5) … Bradley is 0-3 when allowing 70 or more points this season (5-0 when holding an opponent under 70) … Memphis improves to 12-9 all-time against the Braves.
