Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Des Moines, Iowa – The Bradley men's basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped at Drake on Tuesday night, falling to the first-place Bulldogs, 77-68. The Braves are now 15-13 on the year and 7-8 in Missouri Valley play, while Drake improves to 21-7 and 10-5 versus league foes.

The hosts were aided by a strong performance at the free-throw line, making 31-of-36 from the charity stripe in the winning effort, while the Braves were just 6-of-9.

Sophomore Elijah Childs led BU with a career-best 24 points – making 11-of-16 field goals – to go with nine rebounds and two blocks. Senior Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye added his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 boards.

Junior Darrell Brown paced the Bradley attack with five assists on the night.

The schools battled through a tight first-half throughout, trading the lead eight times with six additional ties. The Bulldogs were able to gain a little breathing room, 22-16, only for Bradley to immediately respond with a 9-0 run and a 25-22 edge. The Bulldogs, however, would use a strong run of their own to finish the half, taking advantage of an 11-2 spurt for a 42-36 lead at the break.

The Valley leader in halftime rallies this season, the Braves fought back in the second stanza and eventually took the lead, 53-51, with a fast-break dunk from Lautier-Ogunleye after a long rebound. Bradley led by three, 58-55, with 9:16 remaining but the Bulldogs then took their advantage back thanks to a 10-2 run. Drake scored six of its 10 points from the line during the stretch, resulting in the final lead change of the game.

Bradley pulled within three in the closing minute, 71-68, after a dunk from Childs. However, after forcing two timeouts with the press, the Bulldogs finally broke it and finished off the victory.

The Braves shot 47.5 percent in the game, while Drake made just 36.4 percent of its goals. The Bulldogs' 86.1 clip and 25-point edge from the charity stripe, however, was the difference.

Bradley looks to return to its winning ways on Saturday, hosting Evansville in its final weekend game of the season at Carver Arena. First tip is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Game Notes: Childs' previous career best was 21 points against SMU earlier in the year … Lautier-Ogunleye is now just eight points shy of becoming the 48th player in school history with 1,000 career points … Drake's 31 made free throws are a season high for a Bradley opponent this year.
