Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Peoria, Ill. – The Bradley men's basketball team returned to its winning ways on Saturday afternoon, posting an 63-61 victory over Evansville at Carver Arena. The Braves even their Missouri Valley Conference record at 8-8 and move to 16-13 overall, while the Purple Aces drop to 10-19 and 4-12 versus league foes.

Junior Darrell Brown led the Braves with 19 points, while sophomore Elijah Childs registered his sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 boards.

Senior Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye added 10 points and raised his career scoring total to 1,002 – becoming the 48th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.

Senior Luqman Lundy added four assists and three steals for BU in the winning effort.

Evansville started the game off with the first eight points only for Bradley to immediately respond with a 10-0 run of its own for a two-point lead at the first media timeout. The Purple Aces would regain their edge and lead by as many as six points, 25-19, before the Braves finished the half strong for the intermission advantage. Bradley made its final three field goals of the period to go with five free throws during an 11-0 spurt as BU held a 30-25 edge at the break.

The Braves carried their momentum into the second stanza and quickly went ahead by double digits. Bradley outscored Evansville, 10-3, in just under two minutes to start the second for a 40-28 advantage. Lautier-Ogunleye's 3-pointer during the run put him in the school's 1,000-point club and Brown tallied the last five points of the spurt for the 12-point lead.

The Purple Aces, however, fought back and eventually pulled within one point, 46-45, with just under nine minutes remaining. Bradley would quickly end that run, though, and scored on six-straight possessions to push its lead back to double-digits, 61-51, with just over four minutes left.

Evansville had one final push in them and after nine-straight points, once again pulled to a single digit, 61-60, with under 30 seconds left. Bradley made two free throws in the closing seconds and after fouling up three, withstood the Aces' last putback attempt for the 63-61 victory.

Bradley returns to Carver Arena on Wednesday for its final home game of the 2018-19 season. The Braves will honor their graduating student-athletes before the game before hosting Valparaiso for a 7 p.m. tip.

Game Notes: Bradley swept the season series with Evansville for the second time in three years … Lautier-Ogunleye is the second Brave to eclipse 1,000 points this season as Brown reached the mark on Dec. 4 … Bradley had fewer points in the paint for the first time since Jan. 20, losing inside, 20-16, on Saturday.
