MURFREESBORO, TN – Pitching ruled the day as Bradley Baseball earned a doubleheader split Sunday at Middle Tennessee State to complete the SAF Dirt Classic.  After Bradley dropped a 1-0 decision in the opener, senior CF Andy Shadid delivered a RBI triple in the 10th inning, lifting the Braves (4-2) to a 2-1 victory in the nightcap.

Shadid's game-winner Friday came three days after he also came through with a 2-run single in the 10th inning of Thursday's 5-3 victory at Austin Peay.

Though the bullpen took a split on the day, Bradley's four relief pitchers Sunday combined to allow just one run on three hits with 11 strikeouts in their 11.0 innings of work in the two games at Middle Tennessee State (3-3).

Unfortunately for Bradley, MTSU's game 1 starter, Peyton Wigginton (1-0) was filfthy, blanking the Braves on four hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts in a shutout effort.  The Blue Raiders scored their lone run in the fifth inning, taking advantage of a leadoff hit by pitch from reliever Brooks Gosswein (0-1) before the sophomore lefty settled down.  After a single put two on with no outs, the Blue Raiders used a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly to bring home what proved to be the game's only run.

Gosswein allowed only one more base runner after that fifth-inning single, but the Braves were unable to scratch across a run against Wigginton.  Bradley's best chance to score came in the eighth inning when Keaton Rice drew a 1-out walk and Jean-Francois Garon followed with a single, but the runners were stranded by a ground out and strikeout.

As impressive as Bradley's bullpen was Sunday, the starting pitching was equally as strong.  Senior RHP Mitch Janssen worked around five hits to toss 4.0 scoreless innings to start the first game.  Janssen did not walk a batter and struck out six.  Senior RHP Sam Lund allowed one run on four hits and struck out five in his 3.0 innings to start game 2.

The Braves scored their first run of the day in the second inning:  Dan Bolt drew a 1-out walk, advanced to third on a Connor O'Brien double and scored on a Garon sacrifice fly.

While Middle Tennessee scratched a run across in the third inning against Lund, the Bradley bullpen held the Blue Raiders down the rest of the game.  Senior LHP Cole Cook, who earned Thursday's win by throwing 3.0 innings at Austin Peay, tossed 3.0 hitless and scoreless innings Sunday.  Matthew Richey followed Cook with a scoreless seventh inning and senior RHP Allan Beer (1-0) finished off the winning effort with 3.0 scoreless innings.  The only hit Beer allowed was a leadoff single in the 10th, but he worked around the threat after MTSU gave the Braves the first out with a sacrifice bunt.  Beer answered with a strikeout and, after an intentional walk, he got the game's final out with a line drive to shortstop.

Bradley plated the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th when SS Luke Shadid led off with an infield single, took third on a Brendan Dougherty sacrifice and trotted home on his older brother's triple to right field.

The Braves, who began the day No. 8 in the Ratings Percentage Index, will continue their travels next weekend by visiting UTSA for a 3-game series in San Antonio.
