Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Cedar Falls, Iowa – Junior Darrell Brown scored 29 points to lead the Bradley men's basketball team to a 79-71 road victory at Northern Iowa – BU's first in Cedar Falls since 2008. The Braves improve to 12-12 on the year with a 4-7 Missouri Valley Conference record, while the Panthers are 10-14 and 5-6 versus league foes.

Brown made 11-of-18 field goals in the winning effort, while also connecting on 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. The junior scored 18 of his 29 points after the halftime whistle as Bradley pulled away late versus the Panthers.

Overall, four Braves scored in double figures. Senior Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye scored 15 points, while Nate Kennell chipped in 12. The duo followed Brown's lead from beyond the arc, making 5-of-8 from 3-point range (3-of-5 for Lautier-Ogunleye and 2-of-3 from Kennell).

Sophomore Elijah Childs also registered his fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 11 boards.

Bradley started the contest strong with the game's first 12 points. The Braves' lead reached as many as 14 points, 20-6, as BU made eight of its first 11 attempts, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range.

The Panthers, however, answered with a run of their own, using a 12-2 stretch to pull even at 27. The Braves regained their edge after Lautier-Ogunleye's third triple of the opening half and eventually headed into the locker room with a 36-34 edge.

In the second stanza, the Braves weathered an early hot stretch for the Panthers that saw the hosts go ahead for the first time, 47-43. Kennell then stepped up and scored eight-straight points for the Braves – making a pair of 3-pointers and adding two free throws – as Bradley moved in front, 51-49.

The schools battled back-and-forth before Brown and Bradley's late push sealed the win. With the Panthers ahead by two, 58-56, Brown gave BU the edge for good with a 3-pointer and a 59-58 lead. His triple started a run where he scored seven-straight for the Braves as the BU edge jumped between one and three. The junior finally gave Bradley some breathing room when he connected on his fifth 3-pointer of the night with just two minutes left on the clock for a 70-64 advantage. The Braves then made nine of their final 11 free-throw attempts to end their 11-game losing streak at Northern Iowa.

Bradley shot 54.9 percent in the winning effort with an 11-of-20 clip from beyond the arc (55.0 percent). The Panthers, meanwhile, made 44.8 percent of their field goals.

The Braves look to carry their road momentum into Carver Arena on Saturday, when Bradley hosts Indiana State. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
