SAN ANTONIO – Bradley junior 3B Brendan Dougherty drove home the tying run with two outs in the ninth inning and the go-ahead run in the 11th as the Braves (5-2) scored three unanswered runs to rally for a 4-3 win in 11 innings in the opening game of their weekend series at UTSA (6-4) Friday night at Roadrunner Field.

The Braves have gone to extra innings in three of their last four games, winning all three true road contests.  Bradley has come out on top in each of its last five extra-innings games, dating to last season, and all five of those games have been played on the road.  The 5-game extra-innings win streak is Bradley's longest since also winning five in a row in extra frames from March 11, 1990 through April 6, 1993.  Only two of those games were played on the road, however.

Bradley grabbed the early lead, taking a 1-0 lead on an unearned run in the top of the second.  Eli Rawlinson reached on a dropped third strike and advanced to second on the resulting throwing error by the catcher.  He came home two batters later on a RBI single by 1B Connor O'Brien.

Neither team scored more than one run in an inning Friday.  UTSA, which was coming off a 10-7 win Wednesday night at #19 Texas, built a 3-1 lead by scoring solo runs in the second, fourth and seventh innings.

Junior LF Dan Bolt started Bradley's rally by lacing a 1-out double in the eighth and scoring on a 2-out single by C Keaton Rice.  Junior SS Luke Shadid got the ninth-inning rally started with his third hit of the game.  He come home with the tying run when Dougherty followed with a double to right center.

With Bradley's bullpen allowing just one run on two hits over the final 7.1 innings, the Braves completed the comeback in the 11th after senior 2B Nick McMurray led off the frame with a single.  McMurray promptly stole second and advanced to third on the errant throw.  After Shadid struck out, Dougherty brought home the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly.

Senior RHP Allan Beer earned the win and improved to 2-0 with two saves in his first four appearances since returning from an injury that forced him to redshirt the 2018 season.  Beer retired all five batters he faced after entering the game with a runner at second base and one out in the ninth inning.  Senior RHP Brian Schrimmer worked around a 1-out walk and stolen base in the 11th to nail down his first save of the year.

The teams will continue their first-ever series with a 2 p.m. matchup Saturday at Roadrunner Field and the finale is slated for 11 a.m. Sunday.  Sophomore LHP Brooks Gosswein (0-1, 4.15) is expected to start Saturday for the Braves.
