Elijah Childs Named COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore forward Elijah Childs (Kansas City, Mo./Lee's Summit West) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping Bradley Men's Basketball lock up a spot in the NCAA Tournament with a Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title.

Named the Most Outstanding Player of the MVC Tournament, Childs averaged 12.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.0 blocks in Bradley's three wins as the Braves earned their first Valley tournament title in 31 years.  He had 12 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one block in a quarterfinal win over Missouri State Friday.  In a semifinal victory over Loyola, Childs had 10 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, one steal and a career-best five assists.  He scored a team-high 16 points in the championship game against Northern Iowa and also tallied five boards, one assist and three blocks against the Panthers.  A sports communication major, Childs owns a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. 

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

The NCAA Tournament field will be announced Sunday afternoon with the Braves hosting a NCAA Selection Show Party at Renaissance Coliseum starting at 4 p.m.
