Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Chicago, Ill. – The Bradley men's basketball team lost its regular-season finale to Loyola, 81-68, on Saturday. The Braves are now 17-14 and finish 9-9 in the Missouri Valley Conference standings, earning the five seed for next week's conference tournament. The Ramblers won a share of the league's regular-season title as they improved to 19-12 and 12-6 in MVC action.

Junior Darrell Brown led the Braves with 16 points and five assists on Saturday. Freshman Ja'Shon Henry just missed his season-best and scored 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting to go with a career-best seven rebounds.

The teams played a tight opening game before the Ramblers pushed in front with a strong finish to the first half. Leading 18-17, Loyola used an 18-5 run to pull ahead by 14 points, 36-22, and then pushed its advantage to 19 at the halftime break, 48-29.

The Ramblers shot 63.0 percent in the opening 20 minutes of action to earn the lead at the break.

The Braves attempted to fight back in the second stanza and trimmed the lead down to 12 just over six minutes into the period, 56-44, thanks to a 9-2 run. Bradley would later pull within 11 on the multiple occasions but Loyola maintained its composure and did not allow the Braves any closer en route to the victory.

The Ramblers made 58.7 percent of their baskets in the winning effort with a 7-of-17 clip from 3-point range. The Braves, meanwhile, made 44.2 percent of their field goals – shooting 8-of-19 from beyond the arc.

Bradley now turns its attention toward the postseason with the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament starting on Thursday. The Braves earned a first-round bye and plays Missouri State on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at St. Louis' Enterprise Center.

Game Notes: Henry scored in double figures for the third time in the last seven games – did not score 10 in any of the first 24 games of the season … The rookie was also just two points shy of his career-best total of 17, scored against Indiana State on Feb. 9 … Senior Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye registered two assists on Saturday and joined Hersey Hawkins, Anthony Parker and Charles White as members of the school's 1,000-point, 500-rebound and 300-assist club … Missouri State topped the Braves in both regular-season meetings this season.
