Game Recap: Baseball | | Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications
WINTER HAVEN, FL – Six Bradley pitchers combined on a 2-hit shutout and CF Andy Shadid provided the scoring with a 2-run single and run scored in the eighth inning, leading the Braves (11-6) to a 3-0 victory against Rowan (7-4) Saturday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Park.

The Braves, who completed their week-long participation in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a 4-1 record and ran their winning streak to three games, were held in check by Owls starter Danny Serreino through the first seven innings.  Serreino, who entered the game averaging better than 13 strikeouts per nine innings, kept Bradley off the board by countering three hits and five walks with 12 strikeouts in his 7.0 IP.

Bradley quickly went to work against the Rowan bullpen, however, after Justin Smith (0-2) replaced Serreino to start the eighth.  With one out in the eighth, Dan Bolt drew his third consecutive walk of the day and promptly stole second.  Eli Rawlinson followed with a bloop single and also stole second base to set the table for Shadid, who smacked a hot shot past the drawn-in Owls infield to plate both runners for a 2-0 lead.  Shadid then swiped Bradley's third base of the inning and took third on the resulting errant throw on his steal attempt, before scoring on Jean-Francois Garon's line drive sacrifice fly to left field.

Senior RHP Mitch Janssen got Bradley's pitching effort off on the right foot by facing the minimum nine hitters in his 3.0 innings of work.  Janssen did allow a leadoff walk in the first inning, but induced a ground ball double play to wipe out the runner and retired the final eight batters he faced.

Theron Denlinger (fourth inning), Ben Cilano and DJ DePiero all worked single hitless innings, before Rowan finally broke up the combined no-hitter with an infield single off Brian Schrimmer (W 1-0) to start the seventh.  Schrimmer used three strikeouts in his 2.0 innings to negate a pair of Rowan singles and senior Allan Beer fanned two more Owls in a perfect ninth inning to nail down his fifth save of the year.

Bradley will play one more road game Tuesday at Iowa, before opening the 2019 home schedule Wednesday with a 6 p.m. game versus MacMurray at Dozer Park.  Admission for Wednesday's home opener will be free.  The Braves then will host Evansville in a 3-game weekend series at Dozer Park to open their Missouri Valley Conference schedule.
