IOWA CITY, IA – Iowa's final at-bat at Duane Banks Field has been painful for Bradley Baseball the last two seasons.  What appeared to be an inning-ending line out in the eighth inning turned into a go-ahead, 3-run error when the setting sun kept Jean-Francois Garon from holding on to the liner with two outs and the bases loaded, allowing the host Hawkeyes (12-10) to rally for a 4-2 win Tuesday night.

Tuesday's setback was reminiscent of last year's visit to Duane Banks Field, when the Hawkeyes used a walk-off grand slam to earn a 13-9 win against the Braves.

Bradley (11-7) built a 2-0 lead on Dan Bolt's RBI single in the third inning and Luke Shadid's sacrifice fly in the fourth.  Trenton Wallace (W 1-0) held the Bradley offense in check through the middle of the game, however, allowing only one hit in his 4.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Bradley's pitching staff ran its scoreless streak to 20.0 innings before running into trouble in the eighth inning Thursday.  The sixth of Bradley's seven pitcher's, Theron Denlinger (L 1-1) suffered the loss by allowing four runs, one earned, on two hits, a walk and a hit by pitch in the eighth.

After a wild pitch with the bases loaded plated Iowa's first run and the hit by pitch re-loaded the bases, Allan Beer relieved Denlinger.  Chris Whelan, who began his career at Bradley in 2015, worked the count full against Beer before hitting the line drive into the right center field gap.  Garon appeared to have the ball in his sights, but he was making the play looking directly into the setting sun and the ball tipped off the top of his glove.

The Braves attempted to pull off a 2-out rally in the ninth as Shadid beat out his second hit of the game, while Brendan Dougherty and Bolt walked to load the bases.  Pinch-hitter Connor Manthey was caught looking by Iowa closer Grant Leonard, however, to end the game.

After playing 25 consecutive games away from home, dating to last season, the Braves will open the 2019 home schedule Wednesday by hosting MacMurray at 6 p.m. at Dozer Park.  Admission will be free for Wednesday's home opener.  The Braves then will open their Missouri Valley Conference schedule by opening a 3-game series Friday against Evansville, also a 6 p.m. start at Dozer Park.
