Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
DES MOINES, Iowa – Senior Shunseere Kent scored a career and game-high 25 points and sophomore Gabi Haack added 13 points, but 23rd-ranked Drake claimed the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title outright with a 95-63 victory over Bradley Saturday at the Knapp Center.

Bradley (20-9 overall, 10-8 MVC) finished the regular season fifth in the league standings for the team's best regular-season showing since 2009-10.  The Braves will face #4 seed Illinois State Friday in the Valley Tournament quarterfinals in Moline, Ill.

Drake (25-5 overall, 17-1 MVC) finished a game ahead of second-place Missouri State to win the outright conference title.  The Bulldogs outrebounded Bradley 47-26 and shot 84 percent from the free throw line, while making 31 trips (26 makes) to the charity stripe.

"They (Drake) shot the ball really well today, especially early," said Bradley head coach Andrea Gorski.  "We came out a little flat to start and you can't do that against a nationally ranked opponent.  Shun had the right mentality and had a good day attacking the basket."

Kent scored in double figures for the fifth time in the last six outings, pacing Bradley with her career-best 25 points.  She made 6-of-7 free throws in the setback.  After a scoreless first half in which she only took three shots, Haack scored all 13 of her points in the second half to join Kent in double figures.  Haack pushed her season three-point total to 69, which ranks fifth among Bradley season marks.

Drake was hot from long range early on with the Bulldogs making 5-of-9 three-pointers in the opening quarter.  Kent scored six of Bradley's first eight points and had the Braves within two points at 10-8 midway through the first period after her third basket of the game.  Drake scored the final eight points of the first, however, and closed the period with a 14-3 run to take a 24-11 lead.

The Bulldogs scored the first seven points of the second quarter and stretched the lead to as many as 20 near the seven-minute mark of the second.  Bradley held Drake without a field goal for nearly five minutes and just two hoops in the final 6:50 of the second, but the Braves were unable to cut into the Bulldog advantage.  Drake led 45-23 at the break.

Drake shot 57 percent from the floor in the game, including 61.5 percent through the first 30 minutes and led from wire-to-wire in the 95-63 victory.

Junior Chelsea Brackmann pulled down seven rebounds to go with five points, two assists and three steals before fouling out.  Her 317 rebounds on the season now rank second among Bradley season totals behind Leti Lerma's school record 324.

Becca Hittner led three Drake players in double figures with 21 points as she made 10-of-11 free throws.  Sara Rhine and Maddy Dean each added 12 points for the Bulldogs.

Bradley will face I-74 rival Illinois State Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the MVC Tournament quarterfinals at the TaxSlayer Center in Moline, Ill.
