Game Recap: Baseball |
Peoria, IL – The Bradley baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep against Missouri Valley Conference foe Southern Illinois, posting 14-4 and 7-1 wins at Dozer Park on Saturday. With the victories, the Braves extend their winning streak to 10 games – the team's longest since 2007 – and improve to 22-10 overall and 3-3 in league play. The Salukis drop to 17-15 and 1-5 against MVC schools after the pair of losses.

Game One Recap
Bradley earned a 14-4 victory in game one against the Salukis to extend its winning streak to nine games. Seven Braves reached base multiple times in the seven-inning victory, led by a 4-for-5 performance from Andy Shadid to go with four RBI and four runs scored.

Eli Rawlinson and Luke Shadid also drove in three runs on the day, while Connor O'Brien was 2-for-4 with four runs scored. Keaton Rice drew four walks to match a school record as the Braves claimed 11 walks as a team in the winning effort.

The Braves struck early in the game thanks to a pair of first-inning home runs. Luke Shadid hit a lead-off homer for a 1-0 lead before Dan Bolt added a two-run shot for a 3-0 advantage. Southern Illinois quickly responded in the second, however, using five hits for a four-run inning and a 4-3 edge.

After his brother led off the game with a homer, Andy Shadid added one of his own in the third to give Bradley back its lead. Andy's two-run shot put the Braves in front by one, 5-4, as the brothers hit a home run in the same game for the second time this year.

Bradley would then add two unearned runs in the fifth for a 7-4 lead before gaining a good cushion with a five-run sixth inning. The first three Braves reached base before Andy Shadid cleared the bags with a single up the middle and an SIU fielding error for a commanding 10-4 advantage. BU then secured the 10-run victory with two more runs in the sixth before Rawlinson hit a two-run walk-off double for the 14-4 win.

Brooks Gosswein earned the win on the mound to improve to 4-2 on the season, pitching six innings – yielding four runs and six hits, while striking out five with one walk.

Game Two Recap
The Braves once again took advantage of free bases in the second game, scoring early and never looking back to complete the three-game Valley sweep. Bradley drew eight walks with five hit batsmen – adding four hits for the 7-1 victory.

Jean-Francois Garon and Rawlinson had two of the team's four hits and combined for five RBI in the winning effort.

For the third-straight game, Bradley struck early in the contest with seven runs in the first four innings. The Braves took advantage of three hit by pitches in the second frame when Rawlinson hit a two-run single. In the third inning, Garon hit a two-run homer – his second of the season – before Nick McMurray drew a bases-loaded walk for a 5-0 advantage through three. Bradley then added two more runs via the bases-loaded walk in the third for the 7-0 lead after four.

The early offense was all the scoring the Braves would need as Bradley would allow only one run over the final five innings to secure the 7-1 victory.

After pitching a scoreless seventh inning in relief in game one, Cole Cook earned the win in game two to improve to 4-0 on the year. The senior pitched six innings in his fourth start of the year, allowing just one run and six hits.

The Braves are back in action on Tuesday, looking to extend their winning streak when they play at Illinois. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
