Game Recap: Baseball | | Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications
DALLAS – Three Bradley pitchers combined on a 4-hit gem, while Jean-Francois Garon homered and Andy Shadid hit a run-scoring triple in the seventh inning, leading the Braves (24-10, 4-3 MVC) to a 2-1 win at Dallas Baptist (25-12, 4-3 MVC) to open a 3-game Missouri Valley Conference series Friday evening at Horner Ballpark.

Theron Denlinger worked out of a ninth-inning jam to nail down Bradley's 12th consecutive game, equaling the second-longest winning streak in program history.  The Braves, who extended the longest active winning streak in the nation, last won 12 consecutive games from March 19-April 7, 1993.

Mitch Janssen, who entered the night ranked 10th nationally in earned run average, started Friday's stellar pitching effort and turned in 5.1 scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 1.06.  He ran into trouble in the sixth after issuing consecutive 1-out walks, but redshirt junior LHP Ben Olson (W 1-0) got a ground out and pop out to maintain a scoreless game.

DBU starter Jordan Martinson (L 5-2) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and kept the Braves off the board on one hit through six innings, but ran out of gas in the seventh.  Garon scored the game's first run by lifting a high fly ball that blew over the right centerfield wall for his fourth home run of the year.  Dan Bolt followed with a single and Shadid made it 2-0 Braves when he tripled off the wall in right center.

Olson breezed through the seventh and eighth innings, striking out four in the process, but the game got tense in the ninth when Augie Isaacson led off with a turf-bounce single over the infield and advanced to third on Luke Shadid's throwing error to put runners at the corners with no outs.  Denlinger relieved and got a pair of ground balls and a strike out to put out the fire and secure his third save of the season.

Shadid added a bunt single in the ninth inning to finish 2-for-4 as the only player from either team to record multiple hits.

Due to the Easter holiday and Bradley's travel home from Dallas, the teams will conclude the series by playing a 2 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Horner Ballpark.

NOTES:  Bradley snapped a 9-game losing streak to DBU, which dated to the 2016 MVC Baseball Championship … Sophomore catcher Keaton Rice entered the game sixth in the nation by averaging 1.14 walks per game and drew his team-leading 34th walk of the year in the seventh inning … By allowing only the unearned run in the ninth inning, Bradley lowered the nation's leading earned run average to 2.18.
