PEORIA, IL – Bradley senior Andy Shadid (Peoria, IL/Notre Dame H.S.) is the first player in Bradley history recognized as a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week, powered by Diamond, and a Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week twice in the same season.  Shadid's latest awards from both organizations were announced Monday.

Shadid first was named the MVC Player of the Week Feb. 25 and was tabbed a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week April 8.  His two awards Monday come after his offensive outburst while leading the Braves to a 3-1 record last week:  he hit .438 (7-16) with four doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI.  With a walk and a hit-by-pitch factored, Shadid had a .474 on-base percentage and 1.063 slugging percentage in the four games, giving him a 1.537 OPS this past week.

Shadid did most of his damage late, going 5-for-8 (.625) with three doubles, two home runs, a sacrifice fly and nine RBI from the seventh inning on in the four games.  In Tuesday's 4-2 loss to Illinois at Dozer Park, Shadid hit a game-tying (1-1) home run in the seventh inning and a game-tying (2-2) sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.  In Friday's 10-9 win against Missouri State, Shadid hit a RBI double in the ninth inning and came around to score the tying run.  In Saturday's 16-9 win at Missouri State, Shadid hit a go-ahead (6-5), 3-run double in the seventh inning, added a second double in the eighth inning and then capped Bradley's late-game explosion with a 3-run home run in the ninth inning.  Shadid then opened Sunday's scoring with a 2-run double in the second inning, sparking Bradley's 6-5 win to complete the sweep against the Bears.

A starter in centerfield in all 40 games to date this season, Shadid is batting .293 and leads the Braves with 11 doubles and 41 RBI.  His 41 RBI overall rank second in The Valley and his 18 RBI in 12 MVC games are tied for the league best.

Bradley's fourth-year starter in center field, Shadid has climbed into the program's career top 10 in several categories – sacrifice hits (1st, 34); games started (T7th, 190); at-bats (9th, 684); home runs (T9th, 24); and RBI (10th, 134) – and is on the verge of cracking the top 10 in several more.

Aided by Shadid's efforts, Bradley earned its first-ever series sweep of at least three games in Springfield against Missouri State.  The Braves (27-13, 7-5 MVC) have climbed 14 games over .500 overall and enter this weekend's MVC series against Valparaiso just two games behind Valley co-leaders Illinois State and Indiana State with three weekend series remaining in the regular season.  Bradley is scheduled to visit Chicago State Wednesday afternoon and the Braves are set to host Valparaiso in noon games Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Dozer Park.
