PEORIA, Ill. -- Fourth-year Bradley Volleyball Assistant Coach Jon Wong has been named a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association's Thirty Under 30 Award according to an announcement by the AVCA Wednesday.

Created in 2009, the award honors up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of the sport. To qualify for the award, nominees had to be younger than 30 years old in 2018.

Wong has helped Bradley to an improved overall and Missouri Valley Conference record in each of his first three seasons as an assistant coach with the Braves.  This past fall, the Florida native helped guide Bradley to the second-largest win improvement in the nation along with the first post-season appearance in program history as the Braves reached the second round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship.

"Jon is certainly deserving of the award and we are lucky to have him be a part of Bradley Volleyball," said 2018 MVC Coach of the Year Carol Price-Torok.  "He has been instrumental in the major steps our program has taken over the last few years, highlighted by last year's historic season.  His dedication to the team and our student-athletes is second-to-none and we are looking forward to him helping us continue to build on the foundation he has helped to establish."

In 2018, Bradley finished with a 24-9 overall record to mark the team's highest win total since 2001 and the Braves were the first team in league history to finish in the top three of the regular-season MVC standings after a last-place finish the previous year.  BU's 10-win improvement in conference play from 2017 was the largest for any team in the MVC since 1999 (Bradley at +10) and ties for the best improvement since the Valley adopted an 18-game conference schedule in 1996.

During his time on The Hilltop, Bradley has produced four All-MVC performers, the 2018 MVC Freshman of the Year, a senior CLASS Candidate and a pair of First-Team Valley Scholar-Athletes.

Prior to Bradley, Wong served as Director of Operations at Tennessee and has also worked as the technical assistant for the U.S. Women's Junior National Team (2018) along with the U.S. Collegiate National Team (2017).

Wong is a 2012 graduate of Lindenwood in St. Charles, Mo., and earned a master's degree in sport & fitness studies from Florida International in 2014.
