Game Recap: Baseball | | Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications
PEORIA, IL – Sophomore Brooks Gosswein threw seven innings of no-hit ball before senior Brian Schrimmer pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning and the Bradley baseball finished off a 10-0 victory against Robert Morris-Springfield on Saturday afternoon. The Braves won their fourth-straight game and improved to 16-10 on the year with the victory.

The no-hitter is the third on record in the program's history and the first since six pitchers combined for one against RMU-Springfield on May 3, 2016.

Gosswein threw 97 pitches in his seven innings of work, striking out 11 Eagles with five walks to earn his third win of the season. The 11 strikeouts are tied for the fifth most in school history and are the most by a Brave pitcher since Joe Bircher had 12 on April 6, 2012. Gosswein also forced the Eagles into eight ground outs and allowed only one batter to hit a ball to the outfield.

Schrimmer finished off the no-hit bid with a perfect eighth inning of relief as the Braves then scored four runs in the bottom half of the frame to secure the 10-run victory.

Offensively, three Braves hit home runs to lead BU on the day. Connor Manthey was 3-for-5 with his first collegiate homer, knocking in three runs to go with two runs scored. Brothers Andy and Luke Shadid also each hit a home run – a first for the duo in the Bradley Red & White.

The Braves worked a little two-out magic to grab the lead in the home half of the first inning when Jean-Francois Garon scored on a balk. Luke Shadid then hit his fourth homer of the season in the third for a 2-0 lead before Nic Anderson's double an inning later extend the advantage to 3-0.

Andy Shadid and Manthey hit their third and first homers of the season in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively, to give Bradley a 6-0 lead. Needing four runs to end the game in the eighth, the Braves delivered and Manthey knocked in his third run of the day with a two-out single to complete the no-hit bid for the BU pitching staff.

The Braves wrap up their two-game series tomorrow afternoon with the Eagles with first pitch set for noon at Dozer Park.
