Game Recap: Baseball | | Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications
MACOMB, IL – Junior RHP Jed Moscot worked the first six innings in shutout fashion as four Bradley pitchers combined on a 3-hitter and the Braves (18-10) turned four double plays for the 11th time in program history on the way to a 4-1 victory at Western Illinois (11-19) Tuesday evening at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium.

Bradley will carry a season-best 6-game winning streak into Wednesday night's home game against Iowa.  The Braves and Hawkeyes will meet at 6 p.m. at Dozer Park in the return game of Iowa's 4-2 comeback win March 26 in Iowa City.

In his 11th appearance of the year, but third start, Moscot (W 3-1) threw an efficient 6.0 innings Tuesday.  He needed just 59 pitches to work his six innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five without issuing a walk.  Junior RHP Ryan Hodgett made his season debut to start the seventh and walked both batters he faced, but Brian Schrimmer minimized the damage, thanks in part to the third double play of the game.  Junior RHP Theron Denlinger came on in the ninth and nailed down his first career save by retiring all three batters he faced, the last with a strikeout.

The Braves got all the scoring they needed in the first inning, thanks to some wildness from Western Illinois starter Chandler Fochs (1-1).  Fochs walked the first two hitters of the game – Luke Shadid and Brendan DoughertyDan Bolt brought Shadid home with a 1-out single and after Connor O'Brien drew a walk to load the bases, Keaton Rice was hit by a pitch to force home Dougherty with the second run.

Jean-Francois Garon singled and scored on a wild pitch in the fifth and Rice completed the scoring by opening the eighth inning with a double and scoring on Nick McMurray's sacrifice fly.

Notes:  Bradley entered the game leading the nation in earned run average and ranking third in hits allowed per nine innings … The Braves lowered both marks to 2.17 and 6.28, respectively, as Bradley's 28 opponents now are hitting just .198 against the 16 Bradley pitchers to appear in a game this season … Sophomore C Keaton Rice entered the game 30th in the nation by averaging 0.96 walks per game and he drew his 23rd walk of the year in the sixth inning … Rice reached base in three of his four plate appearances, upping his team-leading on-base percentage to .479.
