Andy Shadid Named COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior center fielder Andy Shadid (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping Bradley sweep a weekend road series at Missouri State.

Shadid led the Braves to a 3-1 week by hitting .438 with four doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI as he boasted a .474 on base percentage and 1.063 slugging percentage for the week. In Tuesday's outing against Illinois, Shadid hit a game-tying (1-1) home run in the seventh inning and a game-tying (2-2) sacrifice fly in the ninth. Shadid hit a RBI double in the ninth inning and came around to score the tying run in the series opening 10-9 win at Missouri State Friday. Saturday, he hit a go-ahead (6-5), three-run double in the seventh inning, added a second double in the eighth inning and then capped Bradley's late-game outburst with a 3-run home run in the ninth inning. In the series finale, Shadid opened the scoring with a two-run double in the second inning, sparking Bradley's 6-5 win to complete the sweep of the Bears. Currently working towards his MBA, Shadid owns a 3.52 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Shadid and Bradley Baseball open a three-game home series against Valparaiso Friday with a noon contest at Dozer Park.
