Bradley Tennis senior Malini Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, MN/Apple Valley H.S.) has been voted to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District 5 first team in the women's at-large category and now will be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, according to a posting from the College Sports Information Directors of America Thursday.

Wijesinghe is the only Missouri Valley Conference women's tennis player recognized in the vote of College Sports Information Directors of America and she is one of just three Valley men's and women's student-athletes recognized at the district level in the at-large category.  Bradley's first-ever women's tennis player to earn Google Cloud Academic All-District 5 honors, Wijesinghe also becomes the third Bradley student-athlete recognized at the district level this year, joining volleyball player Erica Haslag and baseball player Luke Shadid.

To be nominated for the Google Cloud Academic All-America consideration, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and must have completed at least one full calendar year at the nominating institution while reaching at least sophomore athletic eligibility.  CoSIDA's District 5 is comprised of schools from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.  Schools may nominate up to four student-athletes in each gender in the at-large category, which includes the following women's sports:  beach volleyball, bowling, crew/rowing, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming/diving, tennis and water polo.

Wijesinghe will graduate this weekend with a 3.99 cumulative grade point average while earning three degrees in biochemistry, Spanish and philosophy.  A three-time Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete first-team selection, her lengthy list of awards also includes the 2018 ITA Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship & Leadership Award, the Spring 2018 State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award, the 2018 Bradley Athletics Carl Grose Service Award and the 2019 Bradley Athletics Coach Joe Stowell Award.

On the court, Wijesinghe became the second-winningest player in Bradley Women's Tennis history, completing her career with 132 combined singles and doubles victories, while her 75 career singles wins also were the second-best total in program history.  Helping Bradley (16-8) to the winningest season in program history and a runner-up finish in The Valley regular-season standings, Wijesinghe earned MVC All-Select honors as Bradley's No. 3 Singles player in 2019, while also garnering first-team All-MVC honors with fellow senior Lindsay Haight at the No. 3 Doubles position.
