Sophomore Alec Hartman of the Bradley track team clocked a school-record time in the 800m run on Thursday night to advance to the quarterfinals for the second-straight season at the NCAA West Preliminary in Sacramento.

Hartman crossed the finish line in 1:49.10 on Thursday, finishing second in his heat to qualify automatically to the next round and was sixth of 48 runners overall. The sophomore also broke his own school record in the event, surpassing the previous standard of 1:49.72 that he set last season at the same meet.

One of 24 runners to qualify for the quarterfinals, Hartman will now run on Friday for a chance to advance to the NCAA Championship in Austin, Texas. The top three finishers in three heats qualify automatically with the next three fastest times also advancing to the semifinal round in Texas.

Junior Scott Seymour also ran the 800m and posted a time of 1:51.77 in his debut at the NCAA West Preliminary.

Additionally, two Braves ran the 10,000m in California. Junior Jake Hoffert led BU with a time of 29:56.07 to finish 34th overall, while Michael Ward wrapped up his standout career in the Bradley Red & White with a time of 30:22.34.

The Braves wrap up action at the NCAA West Preliminary with the quarterfinals of both the 800m and 3,000m steeplechase. Hartman leads off the day at 8:45 p.m. CT before Haran Dunderdale races at 11 p.m. CT.
