Beer Signs with White Sox

Graduate reliever Allan Beer signed a free agent contract with the White Sox, becoming Bradley's eighth active pro baseball player

Although Bradley did not produce any selections in the last week's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, the list of the program's Braves in the Pros grew over the weekend as graduate reliever Allan Beer (Tulsa, OK/Jenks H.S.) signed a free agent contract with the Chicago White Sox and is on his way to Camelback Ranch – Glendale in preparation for his club assignment.

Since the introduction of the MLB First-Year Player Draft in 1965, Beer becomes the 21st Bradley player to advance to affiliated professional baseball via free agency. The most-recent free agent signing directly from Bradley was RHP Jacob Booden (St. Louis Cardinals) in 2012.

Beer began his Bradley career as a 2-way player and he started at five different positions during his early Braves career: second base (19), third base (11), pitcher (6), first base (1) and designated hitter (1). He settled into the back end of the bullpen as a sophomore in 2016 and completed his 5-year Bradley career last month second in program history with 15 career saves and fifth with 54 career relief appearances. Beer's seven saves in each the 2016 and 2019 seasons equaled the third-best single season total in program history. Saving his best for last, Beer appeared in a career-best 20 games in 2019, posting a 2-1 record with seven saves, a 1.59 earned run average and 11.1 strikeouts-per-nine innings ratio (28 K in 22.2 IP).

By signing with the White Sox organization, Beer becomes Bradley's eighth active professional baseball player.

In his fifth pro season, Ashbeck is pitching for the Class A Advanced California League Lake Elsinore Storm … Working out of the bullpen in 15 of his 17 appearances for the Storm this season, Ashbeck was the starter in Sunday's 5-4 win against Lancaster, allowing three runs on four hits in 4.1 innings.

Boby Johnson (2018), RHP, COL, Asheville Tourists, Class A South Atlantic League
In his first full pro season after being selected in the 16th round of the 2018 draft, Johnson has made 21 relief appearances for Colorado's Class A South Atlantic League affiliate in Asheville, NC … He has been particularly effective in his last three outings, allowing no runs on three hits with four strikeouts and no walks in his first three games of June.

Luke Mangieri (2016-18), 1B, PIT, Greensboro Grasshoppers, Class A South Atlantic League
Selected in the 25th round of the 2018 draft, Mangieri has spent the first two months of the 2019 season in extended spring training with the Pirates, though MiLB lists him with the Greensboro Grasshoppers … In 55 games last season between the short season West Virginia Black Bears and Class A West Virginia Power, Mangieri hit .230 with two home runs and 20 RBI.

In his second season with the Saints, Murphy is batting .271 with four home runs and 15 RBI in 21 games … The veteran outfielder has multiple hits in three of his last seven games, including a 3-for-5 effort from the leadoff spot in Saturday's 14-2 win against Milwaukee … The Saints (15-7) currently own a half-game lead over the Chicago Dogs (14-7) in the American Association North Division standings.

After spending most of the the season's first two months in extended spring training, Roegner made his 2019 debut May 31 and earned a relief victory by allowing one run in 3.0 innings against Tennessee … In his second outing of the season June 5, Roegner allowed two runs on three hits in his 3.0 innings of relief to finish a 5-1 loss at Mississippi.

Mike Tauchman (2010-13), OF, NYY, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, Triple A International League
Traded from Colorado in the final week of spring training, Tauchman opened the 2019 season on the New York Yankees active roster and played in 34 games as the Yankees battled through early-season injury woes … In his 34 games with the parent club, Tauchman hit .211 with four home runs, seven doubles and 13 RBI … Through 21 games back at the Triple A level, Tauchman is batting .290 with one home run and 12 RBI with a .934 OPS for the RailRiders … Of the 20 games Tauchman has started for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he has reached base safely via a hit or walk in 18 … In Sunday's doubleheader against Syracuse, Tauchman was 6-for-8 with three doubles and a triple.
