Vote for Male Most Outstanding Athlete

Fans are invited to vote for the 2018-19 Bradley Varsity Club Male Most Outstanding Athlete from a field of four finalists

PEORIA, IL – With the 2018-19 athletics year officially completed and the spring awards season in the books, it is time to select Bradley University's Varsity Club Male and Female Most Outstanding Athletes and fans once again are invited to participate in the selection process.
 
Following one of the most-successful seasons across the department in Bradley Athletics history, a total of eight student-athletes, four men and four women, have advanced to the final ballots for the Varsity Club Male and Female Most Outstanding Athletes and fans are being given two days to visit the department's official Twitter account - @BradleyBraves - to vote for their favorite finalists in each gender.  This week's fan vote concludes with the four male finalists.  The fan vote for the four female finalists was conducted Monday and Tuesday and a new Twitter poll for the men's vote now is open through 11:59 p.m. Thursday night.  The two winners will be announced Monday.

Male Candidates
 
Luke Shadid, Baseball
  • All-Missouri Valley Conference second team
  • Bradley Baseball A.J. Robertson MVP, Rod Thompson Hitting Award, Troy Guidotti Hustle Award
  • Led The Valley in runs scored per game (0.98) and in runs produced per game (1.62)
  • Led the Braves in batting (.344), while sharing the team lead with 12 doubles
  • Started at shortstop and hit leadoff in all 50 games, helping the Braves to a 31-19 overall record and tie for fourth in the MVC standings at 11-10
 
Darrell Brown, Men's Basketball
  • NABC All-District 16 second team
  • All-Missouri Valley Conference second team
  • Cancun Challenge All-Tournament Team
  • MVC Player of the Week (Feb. 11)
  • Led the Braves in scoring (14.8 ppg), assists (3.2 apg), 3FGM (79), 3FG% (.444) and total steals (33)
  • Led the Braves to a 20-15 overall record, 9-9 MVC record and MVC Tournament championship, the program's first since 1988
 
Michael Ward, Men's Cross Country/Track
  • Completed distance double sweep of the 3,000m and 5,000m championships at the 2019 MVC Indoor Track Championships
  • Cross Country NCAA All-Midwest Region
  • All-MVC – cross country; indoor 3,000m; indoor 5,000m; outdoor 1,500m; outdoor 5,000m
  • NCAA Outdoor Track Championship qualifier in the 10,000m
  • MVC Track Athlete of the Week (Jan. 29)
  • Helped the cross country team to the MVC championship and a runner-up finish in the NCAA Midwest Regional to qualify for the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history
  • Set the school record in the 3,000m (7:57.22) for the second-best time in MVC history and set the school record in the 10,000m (29:16.20)
 
Drake Bushong, Men's Golf
  • All-Missouri Valley Conference by finishing ninth at the MVC Championship and in the league with an overall 73.26 scoring average
  • Bradley's top finisher in five of the team's 10 tournaments
  • Tied for second at the Zach Johnson Invitational, one of his three top 10 finishes
  • Helped the Braves to two tournament team championships and a fourth-place team finish at at the MVC Championship
