The Bradley Baseball program's run of combined academic and competitive success places the Braves among the top seven percent of NCAA Division I Baseball's 297 programs.  After winning at least 30 games for the third time in four years, and in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1992-96, Bradley Baseball also has received the American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award in each of the last two years, according to a recent announcement of the 2018-19 award winners.

In order to receive the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, teams must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the 2018-19 academic year.  Bradley was one of 209 collegiate baseball programs from NCAA Divisions I, II and III, as well as NAIA, recognized with the award.  With 28 players qualifying for the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll (minimum 3.30 semester GPA) for at least one of the two semesters during the 2018-19 school year, the Braves completed the academic year with a 3.334 team GPA.

One of 51 NCAA Division I programs to qualify for the 2018-19 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, Bradley (31-19) was one of just 21 to combine its 3.0 minimum GPA with at least 30 wins.  The Braves joined Valparaiso as the only two Missouri Valley Conference programs and Chicago State as the only two teams from the state of Illinois to qualify for the academic honor.  Bradley also joined Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, Louisville and Missouri as the only five programs among the 30 NCAA Division I teams from Illinois and its five border states of Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri and Wisconsin to combine the ABCA honor with at least 30 wins.

The recognition from the ABCA is the latest academic honor for the Bradley Baseball program.  In addition to the 28 team members to qualify for the Bradley AD Honor in at least one of the two semesters this past year, Bradley nominated 11 players for Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration.  Of the 21 position players and pitchers to start at least one game during Bradley's 31-19 season, 20 completed the 2018-19 school year with a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

One of three players to earn Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete first-team recognition, junior shortstop Luke Shadid also was named voted to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 5 squad, while senior outfielder Andy Shadid was one of 30 national candidates for the Senior CLASS Award.
