MVC Academic Honors for Bradley Student-Athletes

The Missouri Valley Conference revealed its three annual academic awards lists Friday with 80 percent of the Braves qualifying for the 2018-19 MVC Honor Roll

ST. LOUIS – With 168 Bradley student-athletes included on the annual Missouri Valley Conference Honor Roll, 80 percent of the 2018-19 Braves received recognition from the league office for their academic efforts, according to the annual release of the MVC academic honors announced Friday.

Friday's announcement from The Valley included the reveal of the league's three academic award categories:
  • The President's Council Academic Excellence Award requires a minimum 3.8 cumulative grade point average (through Spring 2019 semester), participation in athletics a minimum of two years and the student-athlete must be within 18 hours of graduation.
  • The Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award requires a minimum 3.5 grade point average for the previous two semesters, a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average and participation in athletics a minimum of two years.
  • The Honor Roll requires a minimum 3.2 semester grade point average for the 2018 Fall or 2019 Spring term, athletics team membership and full-time academic status during the qualifying semester.
 
In addition to Bradley's 80 percent qualification rate (168-of-211 student-athletes) for the 2018-19 MVC Honor Roll, additional MVC Academic Honors highlights included:
  • Eight Braves qualified for the President's Council Academic Excellence Award – Will Anderson (men's cross country/track), Katie Habryle (softball), Chloe Horton (women's golf), Michael Mounce (men's golf), Maggie Revell (volleyball), Frankie Saban (women's golf), Alissa Schovanec (volleyball) and Malini Wijesinghe (tennis).
  • Fifty-nine Braves qualified for the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award with all 15 of the school's teams represented by multiple student-athletes.  Bradley and Loyola Chicago were the only two schools to qualify multiple student-athletes from every team for the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award.
  • Of the Bradley Baseball team's 35 team members, 31 qualified for the 2018-19 MVC Honor Roll, the most of The Valley's eight baseball squads.
  • In addition to sweeping the 2018 MVC Men's and Women's Cross Country championships, 50 of Bradley's 60 runners qualified for the 2018-19 MVC Honor Roll.
  • Bradley Womens' Golf shared the league lead with nine qualifiers for the 2018-19 MVC Honor Roll.
  • Eight members of Bradley Men's Basketball MVC Championship squad qualified for the MVC Honor Roll with seniors Peter Hanley and Luuk van Bree also earning the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award.
