Game Recap: Volleyball |
CHICAGO, Ill. – Bradley Volleyball collected a season-best 83 digs and three Braves collected double-doubles as BU earned a 25-18, 25-23, 13-25, 26-24 victory over Sacramento State to start second day action at the UIC Invitational.

Sophomore Rachel Pranger had a team-best 11 kills and career-best 15 digs to help lead Bradley (3-5 overall) to its first win away from home on the young season.  Fellow sophomore Hannah Thompson turned in her sixth consecutive double-double with 10 kills and season-high 24 digs, while senior Hannah Angeli tallied 35 assists and 12 digs in addition to matching a career-best with four aces.

Bradley hit .110 as a team in the victory, marking the lowest attack percentage for the Braves in a win dating back to a .108 hitting percentage in a neutral site victory against McNeese State on Sept. 2, 1995.  Angeli had all four of her aces in the opening set, helping Bradley collect eight aces in the contest.

In the opening set, Bradley rattled off 11 consecutive points to start the match.  Sophomore Kat Poore sandwiched kills around three consecutive Angeli aces and a Sacramento State error gave the Braves a 6-0 edge.  After a timeout, senior Maggie Revell found the floor with a kill as the Braves eventually pushed the lead to 11-0.  Sacramento State hit .312 in the first set, but got no closer than five points down the stretch as Bradley cruised to a 25-18 win.

The Braves collected 30 digs in the second set, holding the Hornets to a .017 hitting percentage in the frame.  Bradley led for most of the second set, before Sacramento State made a late push to tie it up late at 22-22 on an Ashtin Olin ace.  The Braves trailed 23-22 after Sarah Davis had one of her match-high 22 kills only to have Pranger answer with one of her own to knot the score again at 23-23.  A Sacramento State error and Pranger kill gave the Braves the second set at 25-23.

Sacramento State took control of the third set with a 7-0 run midway through the frame and the Hornets forced a fourth set with a 25-13 victory.

The fourth set was a defensive struggle with both teams hitting well under .100 and combining for 57 digs in a set which featured 11 ties and eight lead changes.  Sacramento State snapped a 21-21 tie with a 3-0 run to hold set point at 24-21.  Bradley didn't go quietly, however, answering with a 5-0 run of its own.  Thompson sparked the decisive run with a kill and chased a Hornets error with a solo block to pull the Braves even at 24-24.  Back-to-back Sacramento State attack errors would give Bradley the 26-24 win and the match.

Bradley closes out play at the UIC Invitational Saturday afternoon with a 4 p.m. match against Murray State.
