Women's Golf Finishes Fourth At Cardinal Classic

YORKTOWN, Ind. – Sophomore Elyse Emerzian and junior Maddie Hawkins both earned top-20 finishes as the duo helped Bradley Women's Golf to a fourth-place team finish in the 11-team field at the Cardinal Classic Tuesday.

The Braves saved their best for Tuesday's final round, carding a 16-over par 304 at the par-72 Players Club, but slipped to fourth in the final team standings. Tournament-host Ball State claimed the team title at 35-over par 899 to edge runner-up IUPUI by two strokes.

A shorthanded Bradley team which was without three-time All-MVC performer Taylor Ledwein for the second straight tournament finished third at 916, one shot back of third-place Taylor University (915), which finished 12^th at last year's NAIA National Championship.

Emerzian fired a four-over 76 in all three rounds and tied for 12^th at 12-over 228 to pace the Braves. After shooting a pair of 77's during Monday's action, Hawkins was one stroke better in the final round (76) and finished two back of Emerzian in a tie for 17^th (230).

Senior Megan Medinger had the low round of the day for Bradley, carding a two-over 75 as she climbed into a tie for 28^th in the field at 233. Freshman Mara Flaherty was one shot better than Medinger in the tournament, earning a share of 24^th at 232 as she turned in a final round 77 Tuesday.

Sophomore Sarah Nacos rounded out the team scoring for the Braves in 31^st at 234, posting a final round 79. Fellow sophomore Megan Welch was in the field as an individual and closed out play with a 79 to move into a tie for 34^th at 236.

Bradley will continue a busy stretch to open the 2019-20 season with the Braves playing for the third consecutive week when they head to Burlington, Iowa, for the Missouri Valley Conference Preview Sept. 23 & 24 at Spirit Hollow Golf Course.
