Hannah Thompson Named COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Thompson (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after leading Bradley Volleyball in both kills and digs at last weekend's UIC Invitational.

Thompson averaged team highs of 3.00 kills and 4.92 digs per set, while also collecting 0.54 blocks per set in three matches at the UIC Invitational in Chicago. She turned in double-doubles in all three contests, pushing her streak of consecutive matches with double-doubles to seven. Thompson had 14 kills, 14 digs and had a season-best three blocks in Friday's four-set match vs. tournament-host UIC. She collected 10 kills, a then season-best 24 digs and three blocks to help highlight a four-set victory over Sacramento State Saturday morning before closing out the tournament with 15 kills and season-high 26 digs in a five-set outing against Murray State. Thompson is the only player in the nation to collect 100 kills and 150 digs through Sunday's matches. A health science major, Thompson owns a 4.00 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Thompson and Bradley Volleyball return to Renaissance Coliseum this weekend, hosting the CEFCU Classic Friday and Saturday. Tournament play starts Friday with a noon match between South Dakota and Northern Illinois. The Braves face South Dakota Friday at 7 p.m. before the two-day tournament concludes Saturday afternoon (2 p.m.) with Bradley taking on in-state foe Northern Illinois.
