Game Recap: Volleyball |
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Freshman Karagan Coggin collected a season-best 13 kills and sophomore Hannah Thompson tied a school record with her 12th consecutive double-double to help power Bradley Volleyball to a 25-15, 23-25, 25-21, 25-17 victory at Indiana State Monday.

The Braves (6-8 overall, 2-1 MVC) earned their first road win of the 2019 season in addition to picking up their first road win in the series with Indiana State (2-11 overall, 0-3 MVC) since 2013.  Coggin hit .440, notching a season-best 13 kills to go with five blocks and three aces.

Thompson finished with 10 kills and 14 digs as she matched Sam Hardwick's 2000 school record of 12 consecutive double-doubles.  Sophomore Hailey Delacher and junior Emma Raleigh led the Bradley defensive efforts with 22 digs each, helping Bradley hold the Sycamores to a .134 hitting percentage.

A 9-2 spurt midway through the first set gave Bradley a 19-8 lead.  Coggin, who had five kills on six swings and a block in the opener, had two kills and a block during the run.  The Braves closed the set with a 4-0 spurt as Raleigh capped a 25-15 BU win with an ace.

The second set went back and forth, with Indiana State rallying late.  Coggin broke a 22-22 tie with her fourth kill of the set, giving Bradley a 23-22 advantage.  A Bradley error tied things up again at 22-22 and a Taylor Shelton kill gave Indiana State set point at 24-23.  Indiana State's Jade York followed with an ace as the Sycamores claimed the second set 25-23 to even up the match.

Bradley led by as many as four points midway through the third set, but needed a late push to take the set 25-21.  The BU advantage was 22-21 after a Shelton kill, only to have Coggin answer with a kill of her own to give the Braves a 23-21 edge.  Bradley held set point at 24-21 due to an Indiana State error and the combo of Thompson and freshman Raeann Bergman combined for a block to lock up the 25-21 Bradley win.  Bergman notched three of her season-best seven blocks in the third.

Thompson's streak of double-doubles was in jeopardy heading to the fourth with the sophomore tallying five kills and 10 digs through the first three frames.  She came up with five kills in the fourth, however, helping Bradley hit .323 in the stanza.  The Braves took control of the fourth with a 5-0 run which included kills by Delacher, Bergman and Thompson along with an Indiana State error and Coggin ace to give Bradley an 18-10 lead.  Coggin's second ace of the set and third of the night eventually sealed the 25-17 Bradley win.

The Braves return to action Friday, hosting I-74 rival Illinois State in a 6 p.m. match at Renaissance Coliseum.
