Walid Kherat Named COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior defender Walid Kherat (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping lead a defensive effort which helped Bradley Soccer earn a season-opening 0-0 draw with Belmont.

Kherat and the Bradley defense held Belmont to just eight shots in Friday's season opener with the Bruins failing to put a single shot on goal. The defensive effort marked the first time since a 3-0 win against Mercer Sept. 6, 2009 that Bradley did not allow its opponent to record a single shot on frame, with Belmont managing just one shot in the two overtime periods as the Braves extended their non-conference unbeaten streak to 15 games. A dietetics major, Kherat owns a 3.03 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Bradley Soccer continues a season-opening four-match home stand Friday with a 7 p.m. match against IUPUI in the 11th annual Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game.
